Hi, I have pre-ordered a black 64GB on the S plan, which is a monthly commitment of $77. That's made up of $60 for the plan and $17 for the handset payment.
The MRO is described as being $10pm. However, the S plan with new phone is $10 more than the S plan with BYO phone. All the call costs ets are the same, so its looks as though the MRO bonus is added to the plan cost?
To me it seems like the MRO should be $27pm.
Anyway, can the total cost of the phone, which I make out to be $648 ($27x24), be added to my first monthly payment. (I was able to do something similar with Telstra for my iPhone 4 two years ago.)
If so will this then reduce my ongoing monthly commitment to $50pm, as per the BYO plan?

Hi Liam,
The best way to do it is when you get your phone, you can downgrade to the BYO Plan and pay out the entire cost of the handset (which would be about $648). You may need to pay a $50 admin fee for the change, but its still cheaper then $999 ![]()

Hmm, a possible snag to Ben's advice is found when reading over the My Offer Summary, relevant paragraph shown below (Early Termination Charge):

Doesn't make sense to me how the 24 month total of$1296 is calculated?

That is on the assumption that you cancel your service, the Maximum ETC would be $1296 plus any handset repayments (without an MRO Bonus).
My Suggestion is backed up by section 10.37 in Part B – Our current consumer pricing plans, which is located in the Telstra Mobile Section of Our Customer Terms (ie: Your legal Contract):
If you move from your Every Day Connect Plan to another Telstra plan (including an Every Day Connect BYO Plan) with a minimum monthly spend which is the same or higher than your original contracted spend level
| You will need to restart your minimum term (if applicable). In the month that you change your plan, your call rates, included calls and monthly spend will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis to reflect your new plan and you will receive the full amount of your new monthly data allowance. Your MRO Bonus (if applicable) will no longer apply. |
If you move from your Every Day Connect Plan to another Telstra plan (including Every Day Connect BYO Plan) with a minimum monthly spend which is lower than your original contracted spend level | You will need to restart your minimum term (if applicable). In the month that you change your plan, your call rates, included calls and monthly spend will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis to reflect your new plan and you will receive the full amount of your new monthly data allowance. You may also need to pay an early termination charge and a $50 administration fee. Your MRO Bonus (if applicable) will no longer apply. |
Note: Minimum Monthly Spend, as referenced above, refers to the cost of the plan, less any additional repayments for handsets.

I asked this before and was told that I would have ETC's for my plan if I recontract onto another paln.
What I wanted to do was recontract my $59 Freedom Connect plan (with MRO for HTC HD7) with the HTC Titan 4G and PEN 1 the ETC's for the handset.(I was told there would also be ETC's for my plan).
So with Nokia announcing the Lumia 920, when Telstra start stocking this phone will I be able to recontract onto a $60 Everyday connect plan with the Lumia 920 on a submrp and pen 1 my existing handset. (MRO - $25, MRO bonus $15 = $10 at the moment, after recontracting my bill will be new plan($60) + what ever the submrp is plus the old MRO, pen 1 ($25 / month unil end of original contract & no ETC's from old Freedom Connect plan).
I am only looking for a general answer and know that Telstra have not announced they will acrry the Lumia 920 or if it will be on the submrp list.
My question is simply in regards to whether or not I get ETC's from my old Freedom Connect plan if I recontract.
I did not recontract to the Titan because I was told that I would have to pay out the entire 24 months of my Freedom Connect plan. By looking at your post I think you are saying otherwise.
Thanks.![]()

Boggles, regarding the Service Contract, refer to section 8.29 in Part B – Our current consumer pricing plans, which is located in the Telstra Mobile Section of Our Customer Terms:
If you don’t have a subsidised handset and move your Freedom Connect Plan to another Telstra plan with the same or higher minimum monthly spend | You will need to restart your minimum term. |
If you don’t have a subsidised handset and move your Freedom Connect Plan to another Telstra plan with a lower minimum monthly spend | You will need to restart your minimum term. |

Cheers, from what I read, I should be ok to do what I want to do. We will see if that is what happens.
Now all I have to do is wait for the Lumia 920! ![]()

I would now like to switch to the BYO plan, as outlined in the first post, will I best to do this in a Telstra store, online or by phone?
