Is that Blackberry 10 OS update for next month supposed to be 10.2.1? As 10.2 was already released a few months back.

Thanks

can you please explain what all these new fields mean?

Baseline TA

Baseline date available

Current  TA

I guess baselines are the original dates you expected to get firmware and have it deliverd

But current TA?? that cant be the current date you did actually get the firmware because the current TA for Note 2 is 20/01/2014 yet the comments do say you received it 19th Dec

Is that date expect to be approved?

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

Where is the samsung galaxy s3 update. Why is it that optus and vodafone have confirmed late january/early february release for the update and yet telstra cannot give their customers a rough time frame!! I dont care if it said delayed until next year but I expect someone to let me know. I bought a samsung galaxy gear off of telstra with the promisevthat the compatability update for my s3 would be out december 23 and then 6th january. Why does it keep getting delayed. I now have a $400 device that is unusable and telstra couldnt give a rats!! I spoke to about 10 different people on telstras 24/7 chatline and each different time I got a different story. First they all told me that there was no update and they had not heard any info at all. After alot of asking most of them told me that telstra had received the update and then sent it back for bug fixes... everything I asked was quickly redirected to another topic and not answering my questions. I rand samsung and they said that the update was sent to telstra. So why the blame game!! No one is taking responsibility. The update is available worldwide and yet we are treated worse than 3rd world countries that already have it. Just give me some information. ...any information...heaps of people ive seen on here are all furious about the update for the s3 not coming out. Come on telstra. This is the last straw.......give your customers the information they pay for and stop changing the subject!!!

I think TA is test availability, so current test availability,

Baseline availabilit would seem to be the initial date testing was scheduled to be completed. I assume the discrepencies have to do with the holiday break and that this post went up on the 17th, which means testers will not get their hands on it till the 20th. Take into account time zones as well

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

Yannick, Craig, whoever is actually posting the updates now, there's one device the HTC Titan 4G that hasn't been mentioned, and it seems like there has been a constant stream of  posts asking where the update is and I know that it was available but some more info needs to be dug up as to why people haven't received it? Cheers

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

I think TA must be test approval. Can't be availability because it says current TA not until 20/01 but comments say testing is in final stages.

That would make sense if it gets approved by the 20th as there is about a 2 week turnaround from when it gets approved until it's available for download.

Ah yes. But now I'm confused even more. In comments you have said you received update on the 19/12/13 but in previous posts you said there was a delay on samsungs end and haven't yet received firmware? Hmmmmm

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

YES AGREE! I left optus and VodaFail for telstra.  I know Telstra customers pay the most expensive rates.  For this money, we expect a bloody good service.  I had the same hopeless experience.  None of support chat people know anything.  And Telstra didn't send the fix back for bugs...how did the others get it right???  They are deciding how more branding garbage to throw in the update before we get it.  This is the last straw.  After this im upgrading to a Nexus or whatever Google phone there is.  I can download the latest updates straight from Google.  I don't need to wait for Telstra techs to sleep on an update for years and pile up all of their branding extras.

My wife has an ALDI PRE PAID SIM (which is Telstra).  How in the world did she get her update last month???????????

Thanks for nothing.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

I wonder just how much longer Telstra's severe case of rectocranial inversion will continue when it comes to older Android phones. Or is this just a cynical ploy from Telstr's mis-management in the hope that we will get trired of waiting for the update to make it's glacial journery to our devices.

On second thoughts it's probably due to the fact they haven't to shoehorn enough crapware in the ROM.

Come on Telstra... Where is the GS3 update... This is beyond a joke now!
Like others, bought my Galaxy Gear being told update was due in December and now a month later I still have a piece of tech sitting here that I cannot use.
Very disappointed.....

Yep. I'm almost tempted to go back to an iPhone and port over to Optus after my contract runs out in a few months.
My Samsung Galaxy S3 4G is getting slower by the day while they simply forget about their superseded handsets.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

People please stop hyperventilating. When you buy a smartphone that isn't a Windows, Iphone or Nexus (direct from Google) don't expect it EVER to be updated from the original OS version you purchased it with.

This crap of drama queening every time this update list comes out is getting really old. If you really really must worry about getting the minor updates that are coming through on 4.1.4.2.4.3 then its time you made a pledge to stop buying carrier phones and take the risk with device manufacturer controlled updates.

There are risks to both but in reality a Telstra phone that is tested to operate satisfactorily on the network post update is worth a lot more than you may think to people in the heat of summer for instance. The fact other carriers push updates earlier isn't Telstra's job to duplicate, the other carriers networks are vastly inferior for a reason. Telstra has the best mobile network deployment and the most meticulous engineers.

This is all common knowledge, Android is now over 3 years old in the mass market so none of this is a surprise anymore. If you want to throw your toys out of the cot and go to a vastly inferior carrier simply because Telstra hasn't released the latest Android version for your phone then by all means go right ahead. In the meantime leave knowing this;

1. Nobody forced you to buy a carrier purchased handset

2. Android manufacturers spend their energy on releasing ever better phones with the latest software/hardware not looking back and trying to optimise old tech handsets, if you want that go buy an Apple or something, by the way they largely do the same with old Iphones updated often experiencing sluggish behaviour.

3. Its the forward focus that's driving Android's market position

4. You don't have to wait until the end of your contract to get a new phone off Telstra, you can always pay out the residual monthly repayment option, renew the contract for 24 months and pick up their latest device for a very reasonable figure, in fact this is my preferred method rather than paying $350 plus on a Nexus direct from Google.

So, stop complaining and threatening, if you don't like your phones version of Android you only have yourself to blame, take personal accountability for what is sitting in your pocket. Reality is any Android version after and including 4.0 is very simple to operate and any version after that we are talking about a little bit of icing on top of the cake. You still enjoy the latest core Google tech coming through in the main core apps such as Maps, Chrome, Gmail, Search, etc.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

Is there any way one could apply to be of assistance with Device Software Updates?

We're all aware theres a lot of real world testing that must be involved with each handset to ensure compatibility with the network. I am currently packing a Nokia Lumia 920 (and I absolutely love the platform) but I realise its not as wide spread as the various big name Android handsets. I'm a fairly heavy recreational phone user (ie, I don't depend on it for work), I'm very much invested in the platform and I'm the kind of user the likes to dig around and explore everything.

I would actually be quite interested in helping test software updates for a number of handsets if that is showhow possible. Are there positions available for this task? And if so where do I have to look? I couldn't find anything within the Careers section of the site.

Thanks

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

omg Kirwan get off your high horse. If someone wants to try upgrading a product they have or will pay nearly a grand for that is up to them and should be what tel Co's should put more effort into. Once u get into quad or Octo core there should be no need to buy new ph for years but just update to new os or firmware. sorry but not all of us can just pop in store and drop 350 u say it is to upgrade to new ph. wake up mate.

P's Kirwan I just made enquiry w telstra and it is no way near as cheap as u say to upgrade when on 24mnth contract. depending on how long u been on contract already too.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

The cost of the phone is split over 24 months, of course its up to Telstra to treat customers on a case by case basis. Of course if you wanted to recontract a month or so into a 24 month contract then its going to cost a lot more than after say 12 months. It works for me, buying Nexus outright is something i'd definitely consider if they made a Motorola or Sony Nexus. I'm not a big fan of LG, Samsung or HTC for various reasons.

I won't debate someone that makes nonsense sentences. You seem to know a lot about what Telco's "should put more effort into" so perhaps best to run along and startup one yourself. The rest of us like this network and the people that put a lot of effort into updating us on our carrier handsets and those that prefer to choose the alternates such as Nexus don't waste their time in this forum. That leaves the  few in here moaning about getting kit kat.

@pedah I will flag the HTC Titan 4G with the devices team

@WhatUpYo - the testing we do is compatibility with the network not testing of the update itself. You may be more interested in beta testing software from a manufacturer directly.

Keep an eye on our Careers page for opportunities. Many specialised positions are filled internally so you may want to look at something in the area you are interested first then work your way up.

@JGrimm I am not aware of us having sold any of the Xperia Acro range of phones, we only manage updates for handsets sold through Telstra.

Heya LG,

Being a fellow user of the HTC One XL, I'm also keen for news on the KitKat release, however, whilst the HTC One has been listed as one of the devices to become privy to the update (via a third party Android List), there's been no word on the HTC One XL specifically anywhere. :\

I eagerly await as you do on the updates, I'm sure when we know we'll make the info available to all. :smileyhappy:

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

I too have the same problem was I purchased a samaung galaxy s4 mini and was told that the samsung galaxy gear would work on the min.

After spending $365 on the gear only to find out they are not comparable because the Android 4.3 was not available.

After speaking to many telstra people found out the 4.3 was now deployed for the galaxy s4 and the galaxy III.

Could you tell me what (now deployed) means is it available or will it be available soon

thanks

Afternoon Craig

I was wondering if you can let me know if there will be an up date from Telstra for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT N8000 ?  My last up date was Febuary last year and that was only the 4.1 update. I have seen in some Samsung forums it is set down for the 4.3 update.

Cheers.

Re: Handset Software Updates - 17/01/2014

just to put your mind at ease don't blame telstra for the lack of samsung firmware updates as i monitor samsung's update site for s3 international (AUST) everyday.so far it has rolled out as far as south east asia but nothing so far for pacific regions yet.another point to concider is that telstra is by far the best telco for testing updates telstra won't release an update if they are not 100% satisfied.the way i look at it is that if you want your phone to run the way it should after an update then it's worth the wait.optus release the updates without the checks that telstra does which can brick your phones

Happy Australia Day - Note 2 updated yesterday. Nearly 1 Gb! Was notified while I was away so I waited until I got home last night to download and update via Kies on the home connection.

Note - Kies will also need to be updated...

Thanks Telstra for pushing it out early than expected.

4.3 update for the Note 2 doesn't have the new photosphere camera app. Apart from that, all seems ok.
