Don't hold your breath....

Look at the GT-I9300T, new availble date is 2 months after the first technical approval date. If the new f/w is still faulty, there will be further delays.

Samsung are delivering crap firmware.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Mmmm, I reckon they will hold the updates to kit Kat so they can use it as bait to sell new released phones with kit Kat installed! That will be the selling point... Call me a cynic...

Any news on the 4.4 update for the Motorola Razr M?

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Can we please forget about 4.3 on the I9506 and go straight to the already Samsung released 4.4?

I bought this handset after speaking to Telstra staff telling me it was more advanced/better model that the original S4, AND THIS IS TRUE, but can you start treating it as such? 4.4 should be in development at least from you guys

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Good to see that the Galaxy Nexus has now just completely disappeared off your rollout table after being marked as '4.3 being deployed' last time, until two of us pointed out that it wasn't actually being deployed.

Keep up the swell work Telstra!

My Fiance had a update for her S4 on another carrier months ago and I have been waiting for ages for just a simple update that other countries have had for a while.

Good work Telstra if you can put it out on the 14/04/2014!!

Still NO "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" updates for KitKat 4.4 ??? Why is Australia always trailing other countries?? Disappointing.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Because the s3 firmware was knocked back by telstra, and they had to wait for another submission from Samsung, in the meantime the 4g update was submitted before the 3g update was resubmited.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Just a reminder to everyone (especially with Samsung Phones). It is the phone manufacturer who develops the firmware updates, not Telstra.

If you want to put pressure on anyone to develop an update, email the manufacturer of your phone, harping on to Telstra about it will result in one thing - nothing - as that is the sum total of the effect that it has.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Well said Jupiter

Seems the children on here don't really understand the process with software updates.

While Telstra has the right to test updates the role out comes from the phone manufacturer.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

While s4 is still waiting for 4.3.
Oerseas Telcos have already rolled out kitkat 4.4.1
And to make matters worse, 4.4.3 is being prepared by Google..
Note , I have s4 and nexus 5. The KitKat nexus runs rings around 4.2 and 4.3

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Screw my warranty XDA here I come! Telstra is notorious for withholding updates. I still have emails from Sony pointing out that the updates for the X10 where given to Telstra the same time as everyone else. It's all about marketing new phones. The stats on the new phones will be over inflated because they'll be running the new firmware.

We iron out any kinks prior to releasing & apologise for any inconvenience in the delay

Not waiting that long. Will wait a month or so, and if no sign, will download ROM.

4.4 is not coming in a month or so, that is for sure. We'll be lucky to see it within this year I reckon. Samsung are still busy fixing the mess that is 4.3 and you want them to rush out 4.4? you can download 4.4 and install it now if you really want, but 4.4 has its own issues and being an uncertified Telstra ROM who knows how it will behave on the Telstra network. So maybe you get lucky and it works flawlessly but then again maybe it doesn't.

I can't see any international version anywhere, but there is UK unbranded.. ? I've used UK versions in past with 3g, no problems.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

While I really like my Galaxy S III, I've actually had quite few problems with it and a Telstra technician told me LAST YEAR that I'd need to wait for the expected software upgrade to resolve them.
After many months of waiting , I've FINALLY received the 4.3 upgrade for it, but it's been a mess !!
Sometimes the screen flickers and it can be slow to load some apps. It often takes up to 25-30 seconds to return to the homescreen and, at one point, it completely locked up !! I finality had to take out the battery (twice) to unlock the screen.
What the heck is happening Telstra ?? I'm paying a premium price for what is supposed to be a premium service !! This is simply not good enough.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Hey ChrisQuin

Have you tried a full wipe of the phone?

Then you'll be starting a fresh from 4.3 so we can see how you go from there, without other apps etc on it.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Steph

I really don't want to do that as it took a HUGE amount of my time to set up the phone the way I like it and, I assume, it would take a lot of time to restore it. For example, I've got over 700 contacts on my phone and well over 100 photos of the most important ones and I'm told that I can't back up these contact photos !?

Hi ya ChrisQuin

perhaps you might back up all the info you speak of to a sd card.

That's what I did recently as a precaution when I upgraded my phone from 4.2 to KitKat 4.4.2.

Hope this helps.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Sony Xperia Z1 Users - DO NOT UPGRADE TO ANDROID 4.4.2!!!
Since upgrading, my phone has gone from being quick and bug free, to slow and buggy.
I will be submitting formal representations in relation to the issues I am experiencing, but I am posting this here to warn others.
Here is a list of some of the issues I am having:
- Camera. There is massive lag when opening the camera. 9 times out of 10 the camera takes up to 10 seconds to load. This is experienced in the stock camera app, when using face unlock, and snapchat. I haven't tested it in other apps. This prevents me from unlocking my phone (as the phone locks up).
- Wallpaper. The wallpaper often gets corrupted/garbled for no reason.
There are other issues that I won't list in this post. Needless to say, don't upgrade.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Hi echidna3

I did the update a couple of days ago on my Z1 and have not experienced any problems at all.

Initially I noticed the phone was considerly quicker but battery usage had increase slightly.

I have solved the increased battery issue now and it turned out to be my own fault.

Sorry to hear you had problems with the update.

Cheers

Two more issues with the Sony Xperia Z1 4.4.2 Update - sometimes the phone freezes randomly and without warning. And sometimes the notification sounds are played through the "ear" speaker.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Hi echidna3

If it helps........

I have a mate with the same phone who downloaded 4.4.2 via Sony PC companion and the outcome was that he couldn't get into his phone. I suspect he had an outdated version of Sony PC companion.

He phoned Sony and they talked him through a reset and the situation was solved and the phone now works perfectly.

Perhaps you might try the same approach.

The Z1 is the premium phone of Sony and I'm sure they will give you every support.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers mate

Aren't the S3 3G and 4G the same phones practically? How much different can the firmware be?

Hi Mano11,

Any changes to hardware in the device will mean different firmware, which means that they will need a separate update despite the similarity of the phone.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Hi Manno11

If you think about it again, of course the S3 - 4G handset requires different firmware to the S3 - 3G.

For one you would want your 4G to actually work, but there is more RAM in the 4G model. (double)

In the end I got sick of waiting for an update for my S3 - 4G, so I got an S4 - Cat 4

If I were you I would be contacting Samsung as it is Samsung that does the role out of firmware not Telstra.

Give them a call and see if they can shed some light on the issue.

Re: Handset Software Updates 25/03/2014

Well I'm not too sure who's fault it is, but I do know that Samsung s4 devices overseas, have already received their KitKat update.. Telstra seem to have more problems and delays than most Telcos.
