Hi, ummm is that the whole update?

No mention of Galaxy S4 or Note 3?

More information please .... and please don't trot out the old we don't know line ... if you don't have info maybe someone could ask Samsung what's going on?

Re: Handset Software Updates 28/04/2014

Hi CraigR- is the Sony Z1 Compact update 14.3.A.0.681 or 14.3.A.0.757? If it is 681, any news on when 757 will be deployed?

THanks in advance,

Steve

Re: Handset Software Updates 28/04/2014

I have a prompt on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) telling me there is a firmware update available.

Before I update, just checking, what does this update contain?, and more importantly, what will it do to my phone?!

Still waiting on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Update to get Android KitKat 4.4. :smileywink: There was mention of it being released to testing in a few weeks but this is now obvious Samsung is taking their time.

Okay... I just updated my samsung galaxy s4 (I9505) and now all of a sudden when I connect to the server to check for updates it says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". I JUST INSTALLED AN UPDATE AND NOTHING ELSE... TELSTRA WHY?

No problems actually. Just rebooted my device and it says the usual "The latest updates have already been installed." If you just installed an update reboot your phone! :smileyhappy: silly me!

Re: Handset Software Updates 28/04/2014

Voda has an info page up for their 9305T update. It might not be 100% applicable to our Telstra phones but I wouldn't be surprised if they're handled as one rollout.

http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-4G-software-update

Good info on timeframes etc. Voda are miles ahead when it comes to providing their customers with information.

See the Vodafone announcement above - update initially goes only to selected handsets and trickles out to the rest over a 2 week period. Just keep trying once per day.

Well.. if you go by the information from Vodafone.

The update will be released to phones according to the following schedule.

  • Day 1-3: 10,000 phones are selected at random to be eligible for update
  • Day 4-13: An additional 10% of phones are selected at random per day
  • Day 14: The update is now available to all users

True, but is the randomisation based on preselected criteria, or once available to the public, it will allow some but not others based on timing attempts?

OK GOOD NEWS! After 5 or so attempts, I have a firmware update ready to go :smileyvery-happy:

I am not one of the luck ones I am afraid. I have downloaded 3 times x 450mb and each time the FOTA upgrade fails and I get this message!

I have tried via Kies but it says I have the latest firmware.

Any ideas what I can do to resolve?

Hey amlew1, I have the exact same issue. After downloading, the phone reboots and the install gets to 25% then fails.

EDIT: my phone has never been 'rooted' either.

I tried the method below, and when the installation zip was verified it returned the followed error, which I have included in case it helps Telstra techs rectify ASAP. It seems to indicate that the download file we have is corrupted (I have never 'rooted' my phone either). How frustrating, especially since 4.1 has been out for close to 18 months, now!

"EMMC:/dev/block/mmcblk0p10:47694592:c12814bc73fda6cf96134dacc9999820d2175aea:47739648:5e2f2cb30665141f1126da5e1e71519ca685a495" has unexpected contents.

E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip

(Status 7)"

"1. Go to software update
2. Downloaded the update
3. Choose to install later
4. Plug tablet in and shut down the system
5. Us the volume down and power button to boot into recovery ([Guide] Rebooting into Recovery Mode for the Galaxy S2, S3, and Tab2.)
6. Choose update from Cache
7. Choose the Fota Options
8. choose install.zip
9. Let the install go through
10. Choose reboot system now and when the screen goes dark plug in the tablet.
11. Power the tablet back on and wait for tablet to update."

Thanks for the update. Though, still no luck for me 5 x downloads (2381.65MB) and tries later.

Did you do anything different to your previous attempts in order to get it to work?

The Vodaphone link says their customers don't get charged for data to download updates.
Do Telstra customers get charged for data for updates?

Re: Handset Software Updates 28/04/2014

@goatleyforpm, here at telstra, we charge you for even thinking about using your data for updates, let alone actually doing the update.
We have a high standard of charging excess data fees, and if we were to copy Vodafone, well, our profit margins would take a big hit, and above all else never forget, profit is all that matters at telstra.

(the short answer is YES, downloading updates via mobile data will use your included monthly allowance)

Re: Handset Software Updates 28/04/2014

I checked for an update earlier today, no change. Got home no change. Then pluged it into my PC and ran Samsung Kies backed it up, Kies then needed a major update which then asked me to disconnect my phone to complete, it then loaded and installed then shut down. I then double clicked the Icon on my desktop and after a couple of goes trying to open it different ways it opened. I tried to find updates required on the phone in Kies no luck!

Now disconnected from my PC I checked the updates in my phone A Galaxy S3 I9305T LTE 4G and got the up date (4.3)2 then let it down load on Wi-Fi. There was not enough charge on the battery or going in to the phone while connected to the PC, so before installing 4.3.2 it needs a proper full charge for a while. Then I'll try an install later on full charge.

FINALY!!!!!!!!!!!

A download bar will appear in the area where you dragdown from the top of the phone for all messages, with a download of approx 450mb and will take awhile to load depending on your internet speed,

then it will be ready to install on a full battery.

Cheers.

@beetle84,thanks for note.  Unfortunately 'normally with the phone on' doesn't work. I only tried to go to recovery to install after normal UI install didn't work (returning error in pic attached) about 3 times and finding the solution above on a forum. Pretty frustrating given how long i've been waiting for this and since I don't really know who to contact at telstra to resolve? The only thing I can think of is I had the motherboard replaced under warranty by Samsung but presumably it would still update fine. any advice on next steps would be much appreciated, all. thanks, amlew1

Once the install is complete the screen then asks you to swipe the screen and you will find that at the top there are additional options in settings etc and most everything is still where you left it.
