Having a good LOL at the 'experts' moaning at the lack of a single-port modem option.
When you configure the Cisco or Netgear devices as a bridge, they are functionally identical to the SB5101. That's what a bridge IS. If you were experts, you'd know that.
There are known overheating and stability issues with some models of modem/routers that Telstra supply, you just need to have a surf on Whingepool to learn that, but any other performance or routing issues being described here are simply imaginary.
Nobody will have to double-NAT, nobody will have to stop using their pimped out Linksys/Tomato/dd-wrt/pfSense/etc etc etc box, it'll all be just fine, wipe those tears guys.
"I should not have to bridge the modem to get what i want out of the ultimate connection."
You're already "bridging your modem", the only difference is that the new devices don't ship with that option selected by default. Calm down.

I have already submitted a complaint to the CEO department about this joke of a modem/router
Complaint Details :
I have just signed up for the Cable ultimate 200gb plan and received my Cisco 3925 modem this modem is awful as a routing solution has poor wireless capabilities will reset during long sessions of using bitorrent and gaming and above all these problems after 3 hours of using it the modem is almost getting to a point where it is to hot to touch
I feel this is a safety issue and may damage other hardware i have checked for a alternative solution which would be the Netgear CG3100 which also suffers from close to identical problems
Outcome i would like :
I think telstra being a top class company and above all other ISP's should supply well built hardware without these problems and safety issues
A solution i can see for this problem would be to replace the 2 current models with the previously used Motorola models such as the SB5100 and SB5101 and there docis 3.0 upgrades being the SB6180 and SB6121
Overall the currently supplied models are going to cause alot of complaints and safety issues and in turn cost telstra more than it would to supply good hardware
To top that off the modem is now getting so hot that is has triggered the safety switch on my main powerboard to the house and cut all power out this is not just a whinge whinge i want a single port modem it involves safety as well is telstra gonna be held responsible if you damage my hardware from a modem short circuiting ? is telstra gonna be held accountable if a house burns down because of poor hardware
If i don't have my modem replaced with something that can provide the service i want without the cheap hardware i will be canceling my telstra service after 10 years + and go elsewhere and before doing that i will open yet another TIO report into this problem and have them sort it out even if it means showing them how this Cisco EPC3925 is triggering the safety switch on a houses powerboard

Sure buddy. A wonderful magical overload protector that detects heat somehow. If something is tripping your breakers, it's the wall wart, not the modem itself. In which case, it's faulty, send it back. That's not Telstra's fault.

I know its the modem causing the problem because its only thing i have installed in the past month and this is first time i have ever had a safety switch trigger for my room only so obviously its the modem genius
The fact the modems are known to have heat issues further backs reason telstra should not be supplying them so yes that's telstras fault my friend

No, it's not the modem, it's the AC adaptor. I can tell you that for a fact.
Those AC adaptors isolate the low-voltage DC device from the AC mains. You can short-circuit the DC output of those adaptors and your house's breakers will not be tripped.
If you're going to throw around insults and condescension, you should get your facts straight first.
You should note that I still agree that the EPC3925 is not the best device, I just happen to know how these eletronic devices work. If your AC adaptor is tripping the circuit breaker of your house, stop using it immediately, and return it.
If it were me, I'd just get a replacement AC adaptor from Jaycar or D-i-c-k Smith and push on, but you don't sound like you understand the concepts well enough to undertake that.

Would the ac adapter being faulty cause the modem to become hot as well or is that just the faulty unit
Yes i know you agree that the epc3925 isn't the best unit which is why i don't understand if people who know what there talking about dislike it why are telstra supplying it to people who know less ...

Correct i don't know everything about it nor will i claim to you say its the ac adaptor causing the trip ?

Potentially, if the AC adaptor is sending too many volts to the modem, then the modem's internal voltage regulators will have to work harder to produce the correct operating voltage for the CPU, modulators, etc. Thus producing excess heat. You could test this is with a multimeter, check the actual output voltage versus the voltage on the label.
But I'd be mainly concerned about the fact it's tripping your safety switches.

I also request Telstra supply the Motorola SB6180 modem. I have an existing router currently connected to my Motorola SB5100 Cable modem and do not require any of the additional functionality that the Cable Ultimate device provides and I certainly don't think it's a reasonable expectation to make existing customers pay $149 for a device with all of this (as I read in multiple forum threads, very clunky and unrealiable) functionality if I already have another standalone router that manages all of my wireless and other ethernet devices.
I've been a Bigpond Cable customer for almost 8 years and I honestly don't think that it's an unreasonable request. Especially considering that the SB6180 is a far more reliable device.
I hope that these requests and comments are being taken seriously as I would like to upgrade my cable to Ultimate, but this is the 1 and only sticking point for me in not upgrading at this time.

I would also like to put in a request for Telstra to supply or at least certify a single port cable modem to operate on their network. Currently, when I try to plugin my Motorola 6120 to the network and ring up Telstra to activate it, they will not let me because they do not have any firmware for it
It is interesting that D3 american users have the option of using the Motorola 6120 modem.

I would love to sign up for this because my new flat has cable... BUT
I certainly don't want an all-in-one modem/router like the netgear. I have all that side sorted out - I just want a single port router eg the Motorola SB6120 or 6180
Thanks
Tim

I too would love to sign up for Ultimate Cable but the modem/routers Telstra is currently offering just don't cut it at all.
I already have a top quality router.
For the cable connection, I just want a quality single port DOCSIS 3 cable modem like the Motorola SB6180 that will be far more stable and reliable than the compromised Cisco and Netgear modem/routers being offered.
Regards

I also request Telstra supply the Motorola SB6180 modem.
I would prefer to use my own router/wifi end-point and the Motorola 5101 I have used for a while has been rock steady.
The stories I have constantly read about the other supplied options reduce my desire to upgrade to Ultimate.
