Home Network Gateway with Ethernet connection?

Just reading a post on Whirlpool where it is said that Bigpond no longer has a device for a home network that uses connections via Ethernet.  The best they have is one device allowing up to 5 wifi devices and that is it, is this correct as per the page here http://go.bigpond.com/wireless/?ref=Net-Head-Int-Plans-Wireless?

Do any of the current devices offer at least one ethernet connection so we can at least connect it to a switch?

Is Bigpond aware of this issue, as in there is a need to provide a suitable device for wired connections to other devices at the home.  Are they going to release a new gateway anytime soon, and how soon will that be.

Alternatively is there any third party modems we can use instead that will enable us to have a wired connection to other devices at home?

Cheers

You can plug a 3G/4G USB modem into the current Bigpond Thomson Premium ADSL Home Network Gateway and use that as an ethernet (and wireless) router if needed.  There is no need to have an ADSL connection to use the modem in this way, or to purchase the modem.

I'm guessing they are moving away from providing specifically targetted 'home' devices such as the 7.2 and Elite HNG, both of which were plagued with problems, and both of which introduced the claims by some that the service was meant to be static and as such should receive special treatment in regards to pricing and quotas.  They now offer only mobile devices for mobile broadband.

Re: Home Network Gateway with Ethernet connection?

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that they were looking at a 4G equivalent of the Home Network Gateway (with Ethernet Ports) however I'm not sure if this is A) the case and B) If it is the case, when it will be offerred.

B.

That is a falsehood. Netgear CG3100, for one, is “a device for a home network that uses connections via Ethernet.”  I note that this thread is in a section not specific to mobile broadband, and you have not otherwise qualified the assertion to refer only to mobile broadband.

That is a falsehood. You personally may have a need to acquire and/or use such a device, but neither BigPond nor any networking equipment manufacturer or supplier “need to provide” one.

Have a good Easter.
