When can we expect the Gingerbread Rom for HTC Desire, now that HTC are releasing it?

Visit this publicly accessible page:

http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/smartphones.html

and navigate to the Software Updates tab.

Re: Gingerbread Rom for HTC Desire

From Telstra's track record, I'd suggest you can expect to receive it about 6 months after HTC release it. However, if Telstra don't put all their junk back in (and they might not), you could get it only 4-6 weeks after HTC releases it.

Hi Soren, I've just tried the link that brings up the tab (http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/smartphones.html#tab-spf) and it works for me (running IE8). Greg

Re: Gingerbread Rom for HTC Desire

Grab the HTC Desire Gingerbread release from here and enjoy. Official developer version from HTC Smiley Happy

http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152

There is no Telstra branding on this, it requires no rooting, make sure you back everything up 1st as this is a factory reinstall.

The flashlight app is a seperate install and is part of the download files.

I find it works well, your mileage may vary obviously, but no regrets here. Faster, more storage space, some nice new features, better battery life, doesn't seem to run as hot.

Re: Gingerbread Rom for HTC Desire

Word of caution though - once you upgrade, there's no rolling back to previous versions without rooting your phone.

Battery usage varies also - numerous forums mention this.

All in all, as mentioned, runs much faster with less lag in some apps. Once I turned off the Quick Restart option, battery life improved dramtically as the phone could do a proper reboot with locking up the app causing the drain. IMHO

Re: Gingerbread Rom for HTC Desire

HTC are going to release the update of Gingerbread via Facebook.

I can only guess if this will include the Telstra information.

Hope this helps.
