Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

Pretty excited to receive a tip-off today from someone suggesting that Telstra will be releasing a LTE Windows Phone device in 2012 - and that it is supposed to be the fabled Nokia Lumia 900. Excitement ++++ (See my profile for my blog link where I have detailed information)

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. :smileytongue:

We've not had any word as of yet in regard to the Nokia Lumia 900 LTE and therefore unable to confirm if this is actually the case, however, more than confident that we'll let everyone know when we know. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

Here's the exciting Lumia 900 LTE launch video for the US...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2NDF3g4KU4Y

For Aus - Telstra, you will need to discuss a localised version of the hardware that supports your 1800band 4G network (and not the 1700band US release version).

Get to it!

Telstra would do well to contact Nokia and Microsoft (Australia) ASAP and get the ball rolling without delay so they can access the "hero" marketing money and also incetives mentioned here:

http://nokiamobileblog.com/lumia-900-might-be-a-hero-phone-get-millions-worth-of-marketing/

Also pass this on to the movers and shakers because promoting this smartphone us a no brainer:

see: http://www.winsupersite.com/article/windowsphone75/nokia-lumia-900-preview-141872

I think it is time for Telstra to get serious about this extraordinary device (and all WP7) as soon as possible and have it ready before the predicted launch of Window 8 that this device is designed to work seemlessly with.

I know that Android and iPhone are getting a huge push be we need a level palying field so this can be a three horse race

So now we have confirmation of the Nokia 900 being rolled out to another country with LTE (Canada). Perhaps Australia isn't that far away, either?

Nevertheless, Nokia has also announced plans at MWC for a DCHSPA version of the 900 to roll out internationally.

Personally, I'd much rather have the DCHSPA 900 if it means I could get my hands on it sooner than waiting for the LTE version!

What about everyone else? Wait for an LTE version to become available, or grab the DCHSPA?

Re: Nokia Lumia 900

I don't think it's helpful to have all these seperate threads doubling up on the Lumia 900.

AFAIK at this point (as I posted in another thread) I an stikk awaiting confirmation that a carrier has agreed to range the Lumia 900 locally.

Although I did pick up on something interesting in a conversation I had with someone well placed earlier this week. Not prepared to publish it just yet till I can back it up...

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

Just so you know the Lumia 900 is set in the US for April according to all things Windows expert Paul Thurrott:

Nokia Lumia 900 to Arrive on AT&T in Early April

A trusted source from AT&T has finally provided the information I've been waiting for: The Nokia Lumia 900, originally set to launch March 18 on the network, will be released in the first week of April, on either April 8 or April 9. But you can find out for sure on Monday, when AT&T will make the big announcement. As previously and exclusively reported here, the Nokia Lumia 900 will cost only $99 on AT&T, which is an astonishing price for such a high-end device. Yes, I will be getting one. In fact, I can't wait. see: http://www.winsupersite.com/article/paul-thurrotts-wininfo/wininfo-short-takes-march-23-2012-142653

For Telstra to seriously get some prolific sales here in Australia they should look at outright buy price and pricing overall on plans.

Also let's try and get this mobile before the estimated June release date.  Maybe April or May would be good.  Oh and also I have picked up a Lumia 800 to replace my continuously faulty HTC Mozart Windows 7 phone (hardware not software problems) and I have to say it is excellent in so many ways especially Nokia Music and Nokia Drive.  Even ringtones are better.

For me in business, it also has superior integration with Microsoft Office, SkyDrive and Office 365 (called T-Suite in Australia) for exchange email, calendaring and contacts.

The Lumia 900 with the 4.3" screen 4G and other features it can only be more excellent.  So Telstra bring it!

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

I agree pahollow, this is the opportunity for Telstra to really get onboard the WP7 Train and take advantage of the Nokia Marketing efforts.

The 800 is a smashing device, and everyone I have shown (yes even my Droid and Apple owning friends) are going great with envy over the quality, speed, feel and look of the device.

Nokia Drive and Maps are both extremely responsive and seemingly very accurate, get free addition to the phone.

Once the 900 hits the shores, it is definately gonig to make some waves, and get some converts.

An April launch for the 900 would be outstanding... May at the latest please.... Come on big T, use that charisma and charm to woo Nokia into a nice launch date for us ;-)

Unrelated note, did everyone also see the 70k figure has been exceeded. The Marketplace is getting close to 100k.

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

LOL. So Nokia set the Lumia 800 RRP at $699.

I reckon the Lumia 900 RRP here will have to be $100-$150 more, so $799 to $849, if we are really unlucky, +$200.

IF more than one retailer stocks it, and it gets ranged on more than just Telstra, then market forces typically reduce the RRP by 10-15% for streetprices.

So - all that has me guessing at a street outright price here at best of ~$720.

BUT if the rumours are true, and the Titan II 4G goes on Telstra for $888 outright, then I can see Telstra pushing their outright price up to mid 800's to line up with their other 4G offerings.....

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

I agree with you' pahollow', Telstra should get serious about Windows 7,5

smartphones.

The 2 that are simply the best and virtually equal, according to all the

reviews I've read, are the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan 11.

The screen type, the physical size, the colour and camera capabilities

are a matter of personal preference.

The UI (user interface) is so different from the all too common apps icons

of both Android and Apple.

Microsoft doesn't do anything in half measures. The operating system

will turn the very large losses that Nokia and HTC have recently reported

around.

I believe Telstra has made a commitment to bringing both of these

4G LTE smartphones into Australia, the question is when?

Hello Moderator:   I have pahollow sitting with me & we both would like to know  a release date for the Lumia 900. It has been almost 5 months & still no release date. Can the moderator ASK TELSTRA for a specific release date. Surely somebody must know by now. Telsta shops that I have visited have no idea about the Lumia 900. I spoke with a salesperson who was going to contact a Nokia rep & get back to me & this never occured !!

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

At this stage no carrier or Nokia have made any public statement or committment towards the Lumia 900. Allphones have it as "coming soon" - and the unit will be quad-band WCDMA 3G - so if you buy it unlocked here it will work on Telstra NextG :smileyhappy:

G-day Sheeds

I received my Lumia 900 a couple days ago. Yesterday I went into a Telstra Store to have my normal SIM exchanged for a MicroSIM... (this Lumia 900 is only a NextG compatible originally from Rogers CA, the same as my previous Samsung Focus).

Thing is though I've been waiting for my MicrosSIM to be activated and its been well over 24hrs! UGH.

Usually I get decent service from Telstra, but this is just ridiculous! Not only that - they told me it would only take 15-30min!!

If there are any Telstra folk reading this please activate my SIM!

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

Nokia Lumia 900 to launch in Australia

http://www.crn.com.au/News/300333,nokia-lumia-900-to-launch-in-australia.aspx

Cheaper sister also on its way.

May 11, 2012

Nokia has confirmed its flagship Lumia 900 smartphone will launch in Australia with the company offering media a sneak peek of the handset next Thursday.

It is the phone maker’s first confirmation of Australian availability since the smartphone first surfaced globally in late February.

The Lumia 900 is the higher-end sister of the Lumia 800, which launched in Australia in March, and the Lumia 610, which is also expected to be previewed next Thursday.

Nokia has positioned the Lumia 610 as its most affordable in the range. The $US250 ($A235) device runs the most recent version of Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’, built specifically by Microsoft to run on lower-cost hardware.

The Lumia 610 has a 3.7-inch 800x480 LCD screen, 256MB of RAM, and touts an MSM7x27 Qualcomm processor.

The higher-tier 900 boasts a larger screen than its Lumia 800 3.7in predecessor, at 4.3in, and runs on Windows Phone 7.5 with a 1.4 GHz processor, including 512 MB of RAM and 16GB internal memory. It echoes the 800’s 8 megapixel camera but adds on a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera.

Nokia has high hopes for the Lumia range, and the 900 specifically, after a difficult year which saw it suffer a net loss of €1.6 billion ($A2 billion) for the first quarter of the 2012 financial year.

You will need to buy one outright - or switch to Optus. Telstra will NOT be ranging the HSPA+ Lumia900 arriving here with Nokia Australia. Expect this to be announced tomorrow in Syd.

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

There are several conflicting opinions re the nokia lumia 900 release & telstra in crowdsupport. Could the moderator please respond with the clearest information regarding this issue. Could somebody also provide a link to the media sneak peek apparently happening today. Given that Nokia has lost A$2b one would think they would shouting the phones release from the roof tops. Is the issue with this phone the 4G compatability (Aust different from US)?

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

I think these articles are somewhat telling:

http://delimiter.com.au/2012/05/17/will-telstra-skip-nokias-lumia-900/

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/05/nokia-lumia-900-lumia-610-hit-australia-in-june/  (check tomorrow for more)

on the upside:

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/mobile_phones/nokia/lumia_900/416990

Quite frankly Telstra, this is not a possitive outcome allowing Optus to steal away your position here in what shoul be a no brainer.  I mean Microsoft and Nokia are strong technology partners of yours, and not carrying the Nokia "hero phone" is shortsighted at best and small minded at worse.

What is the point of posting here if we don't get a good responce or even worse no authoritive response at all...!?

Actually, this is a community forum which is designed to allow customers to have discussions, not to ask for Official Position statements.... Not to pressure Telstra to release what is obviously commercially sensitive information.

Re: Nokia Lumia 900 LTE handset coming to Telstra in 2012?

[ Edited ]

That's fine but I spoke to Telstra (yep by phone) and they said that this blog posting method called "crowd support" is a way to get their attention.

Endless chit chat or blogging while interesting, does not necessarily represent the intent of those of us that work in the technology industry who are looking at the bigger picture.

Microsoft's 3 screens and the cloud is now tied to Nokia and others ( see http://redmondmag.com/articles/2009/11/01/microsofts-s_s-strategy-grows-up.aspx ) and there are clients I work with that want to get a phone that can work with well their PC’s (either lap or desktop type) and Nokia is lining up as best of breed (maybe?).

If you want a better understanding of how this all fits together, check out Paul Thurrott’s windows supersite where the windows phone is discussed ( see http://www.winsupersite.com/windows-phone )

Also, when you say: “I don't take kindly to arrogant individuals who are intent on pushing their own agenda and not on having a discussion…”, I am not sure what you are talking about?

My posts may not be discussion or blog like but my intent is to get Telstra to look at the bigger picture and recognise that some of us have needs that are simple.

My agenda is to get Telstra to carry Nokia Lumia 900 mobile phones so we don’t have to change carriers (Optus et al) or buy the handset.

Finally, social networking and blogging in particular is not for everyone.  I like this clip from Dr Who:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=44CB6976D2390799!1108&authkey=!ADxuNTUgxX5AowQ

In particular when the doctor said: The Doctor: [spinning around, irritated] You two! We're at the end of the universe. Okay?! Right at the edge of knowledge itself! And you're busy... [struggling to find the right word] blogging!! Come on.

Companies such as Telstra, Microsoft HP and others a so big now that it has become incumbent on them to look at ways to find out what people want and then simply provide it.  Only problem is that it is now harder than ever to do that.  They could run polls with simple questions relating to products but they don’t do that instead that ask us to chat about it.

All the discussing in the world falls short if things don't change … sorry but that is the bottom line for me and may well be the case for many others who think about it but don't know how to articulate their needs.

Interesting, maybe Telstra is taking this in a different direction then in the Community Guidelines, I know that people read these forums but they aren't going to publicly release information which isn't ready for public consumption yet.

I too work in the Technology industry, however I am also aware of the commercial restraint providers have to show when considering new products to add to their lineup.

Its a Signature that I've added because I tend to cop alot of flack when I remind Mr. Australian Consumer what they are actually entitled to as an Australian Resident, not what they think they are entitled to. This place is great for sharing knowledge, but some people won't discuss and hold their ground, or use it to push an agenda (Bigger MBB plans, a free pony with every ADSL connection, ADSL connections that defy the laws of physics etc.)

Which is great, provided you don't mind being reminded what you are entitled to as an Australian Consumer.

There is nothing incumbent on Telstra, Microsoft or HP at all, legally or ethically, to cater to 100% of consumers 100% of the time. It is the job of each of these companies to provide products and service which are going to A) Make Shareholders money and B) Attract and retain a majority of customers without risking point A.
