How to unlock your Pre-Paid phone

Most Telstra devices are locked to the Telstra network. If you’re heading overseas, selling your phone or upgrading to the latest model, you can unlock your device for use on any network.

How do I unlock my device?
To get started, simply call one of these numbers:

From a Telstra phone: 125 8887
From a non-Telstra phone: 13 22 00
From overseas: +61 439 125 888 (international call charges apply)

You can call these numbers from 8am to 9pm every day.

What details do I need?
Remember to have your IMEI number handy when you call. You’ll find it on the box that your phone came in. Or, call #06# on your phone and it will display your 15-digit IMEI number.

How much does it cost?
For phones activated up to 6 months ago (or never activated), there is an unlocking fee of $80. For phones activated 6 months up to 2 years ago, there is a $25 fee. If you activated your phone over 2 years ago, there is no unlocking fee.

The unlocking fee is deducted from your recharge credit (not including bonus credit). Once you have completed payment, follow the unlocking instructions displayed on your phone.

If your Pre-Paid service doesn’t have enough recharge credit for the unlocking fee, you can choose a different form of payment – just ask us when you call.

How long does it take?
It can take up to 72 hours to unlock your phone. You may need to switch it off and turn it back on again to complete the process.
