From 3 December 2015, new International Travel Passes became available for customers on post-paid mobile and mobile broadband plans. These are available for personal and small business customers (excludes Premium Plan customers).

We previously advised that the excess data rate for International Travel Passes would increase from 3c to 10c/MB. Based on feedback from our customers we will not go ahead with this increase so the excess data rate will remain at 3c/MB.

More countries, more data

The new International Travel Passes are available for use in 20 more countries, bringing the total up to 58. As part of the change, the cost of a Travel Pass for some destinations has increased however all passes now include approximately 50 per cent more data.

Pass lengths and inclusions

The International Travel Passes are available in 3, 7, 14 and 30 day durations. Zones, prices, countries and inclusions are outlined in this table.

Buying multiple passes to suit the length of your trip

You may need to buy multiple passes to suit the length of your trip.

Personal customers should buy an International Travel Pass once you’ve landed in your destination as it is activated when purchased. Each pass should be purchased as the previous one expires, not all at the same time. We’ll send an SMS reminding you when your Travel Pass is about to expire.

For example, if you are going on a Zone 1 10 day trip, it is best to buy a 7 day Travel Pass followed by a 3 day Travel Pass once the first pass has expired. If both are bought at the start of your trip, the data inclusions will be combined to a total of 750MB but the number of days will not – the total 750MB will expire at the end of the 7th day (which is the latest expiry date), not the 10th.

Business customers can call to order multiple travel passes before the start of a trip. We’ll send an SMS when the pass is about to expire.

How to buy

Both Business and Personal customers can do this once you have arrived in the destination country by calling +61 439 125 109 (there is no charge to call us from a Telstra mobile).

Manage your international roaming with the Telstra 24x7 App

Personal customers can purchase a pass by using the Telstra 24x7 App. We recommend downloading our Telstra 24x7 App and registering for My Account (data charges apply) prior to travel.

Using your Telstra ID details, you will be able to log into the app to:

> Activate or deactivate international roaming
> Buy an International Travel Pass

> Keep track of usage on the go

Those who don’t have access to the 24x7 App can use My Plan Manager (Telstra.com/MPM) to buy International Travel Passes and manage usage at no additional cost. Usage SMS alerts will continue to be sent when 50%, 85% and 100% of the data allowance is used.

> Register for My Account
> Download the Telstra 24x7 App

> Access My Plan Manager from your device

Using old International Travel Passes

You can continue to use any active Travel Pass until it expires without any change to the original cost. After this a new Travel Pass can be purchased.

Premium mobile customers

If you are on Telstra Premium Mobile or Go Business Premium Mobile Plans, you already have an international roaming allowance and so you do not need to purchase an International Travel Pass when going overseas.

From 8 December, the number of countries in which this international roaming allowance can be used will also increase to 58. For full details visit Changes to Telstra Premium Mobile/Go Business Mobile plans.
