Mysterious message

Answered

I have received twice today the following message, supposedly from Big Pond. But I am suspicious. Is it genuine or some form of spam?

Dear BigPond User,

As you probably know by now, since the end of 2013, the BigPond brand has been discontinued and merged with Telstra Corporation Limited (known as Telstra), Australia's largest telecommunications and media company which builds and operates telecommunications networks and markets voice, mobile, internet access, pay television and other entertainment products and services.

In the next 48 hours Telstra BigPond has to update your billing details and information with our new system that will ensure faster Cable, ADSL, Wireless and Dialup services for residential customers as well as small business.

Telstra BigPond is sending you this e-mail to ensure that your service is not interrupted, therefore we request you to confirm and update your billing information now by clicking the link below. It only takes 5 minutes.

If you have already confirmed your billing information then please disregard this message as we are processing the changes you have made.
Regards,
Telstra
Billing Department
Thanks for your co-operation.

Re: Mysterious message

Definately a shonky setup and scam.

The link their takes you to a conviencing looking Bigpond login page, BUT the address of this page (http://mailgate2.bedmod.co.uk/pawiki/) is definately not one that Telstra or Bigpond would use, in fact it's in the united kingdom.

Bit of reasearch found that it's associated with Bedford Modern School in the UK.

So message is stay away.

If I have provided an answer, or posed a question that helps or interests you, your KUDOS vote would be appreciated Image and video hosting by TinyPic
If I or anyone has provided a solution, you'll help others if you mark our answer as the Solution The Ghoust Writers: STUDYING ABROAD

NB: I am NOT a Telstra employee, just another customer like you.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Mysterious message

Very good, and thank you, Deanja. But will Telstra do something to control this, I ask?

Re: Mysterious message

My pleasure.

While I don't work for Telstra/Bigpond, I'm a customer just like you, but I know they take very seriously this and all types of scamming using their brands and products. The biggest problem with these things is that they are very hard to trace right back to the accutual source as they use an address for maybe a day or two, then create a new one.

There was a previous report of this email, BUT it was through a different address, too easy for those in the know, who in the long run are after your hard earned, they know how to work the system, internet.
