Blackberry Passport

Answered

Hi there,

I was wondering if Telstra are planning on carrying the Blackberry Passport on release? If so, do you have a timeframe on release?

Thanks,

Adrian

Re: Blackberry Passport

Wait, hang on,

If I want updates on blackberry I gotta sign up to the updates - but blackberry isnt on the list...

So to get updates, I gotta wait when there is an update, you add it to the list, I then sign up and then I get updates on something I updated myself on?

Is that how it works?

I cant find Blackberry on the list to be updated on... What do I select to be updated on? And "All" is not a valid answer because we are asking specifically about Blackberry.

Re: Blackberry Passport

There is a new BlackBerry out.  The Passport...and yet still there is no option for it.  Is that because Telstra are no longer going to stock BlackBerry handsets?  It's poor business practices when you know customers are looking for a particular device and all you have for them is to sign up for an alert which doesn't even give them an option for the brand they are after.

I'm sick of all the dodging around.  Once and for all can someone at telstra plainly tell those who are looking for BlackBerry options that you have decided for business reasons that you will not be stocking this device?

Re: Blackberry Passport

So when information is avaliable I can sign up for alerts when I alerted myself to the information?

Sounds like a "We arent prepared for it" answer.

Maybe I should just get the phone from the States if Telstra is going to drag its feet. I've been waiting for a good BB release and am thinking of renewing my contract with Telstra but if I have to check Telstra for updates so I can sign up for an update I already did myself - why on earth are we being directed to the "stay updated" page that is useless.

May as well say "We will let you know when your TV show starts when the Show starts... and when that happens we will be ready to tell you when it starts, just sign up to the alert so when it starts, the option to be alerted to the show will be open so when you sign up, we can tell you that the show has already started."

Re: Blackberry Passport

Thanks for the reply Pepi, but you twisted words there a little. '

I stated that it will be added to the list when there is relevant information. We receive information prior to customers and if we have upcoming release information for 'a good blackberry' it will be added to the Keep Informed page well before an actual release date is announced.

If you wish to order one from overseas, then that is completely your choice.

Re: Blackberry Passport

Thankyou for the clarification but to be told to use a link to stay informed, and its not there, then to be told "when there is relevant information" sounds like a cop out since the phrase is so vague, but when you combine that phrase to the link provided, the words I suggested above doesnt sound so twisted... Clarrification was needed and now it makes more sense.

Its just odd that RIM releases the BB across the western world but leaves Australia out, and its sad Telstra hasnt been on the ball on this as some of us Android and iPhone users are BB refugees. Maybe there is a anti-refugee policy in Telstra (I mean that jokingly.)

That being said - Considering that the phone will be months away as the usual time frame with Australian releases, I wonder how more expensive a Telstra branded BB Passport will be than the $599 asking price from the US store.

Re: Blackberry Passport

I was having a look around the interwebs Pepi for any information on the Passport release into Australia, because as you understand we are a service provider not the manufacturer. Yet I was unable to find any release date for the handset in Australia at all, even from the specialist Blackberry store. I didn't want to follow the official Twitter page for updates, but maybe this is something you wish to do as they may have further information on an Australian release.

Re: Blackberry Passport

This thread is kinda funny, but I think the point that needs to be made is that Blackberry should have a checkbox on the update page, that way when Telstra does get info they can forward to people who have registered an interest, rather than double handling it...The way it should work is I should register an interest, checking the Blackberry box and when Telstra hears something they email me...

It does look like Telstra will not be stocking Blackberrys anymore the way it is currently...

Re: Blackberry Passport

I'm also wondering if perhaps they don't want to get people's hopes up by having a Blackberry category to select when they have no foreseeable plans to stock Blackberry devices.

Re: Blackberry Passport

Clicking on the link to register my interest was pretty time wasting. Silly to tell people to go to link when we cant even register our intrest. I would still really like to receive any info, even if you annouce your not going to stock it.

Telstra, please do as much as you can to get the BB passport in stors asap. We all need the BB passport in our hands!

Hey Pepi,

I know that the specific Blackberry listing has been removed, but there is an all tab that will I'm sure get an update if we have any further consumer Blackberry devices available. Form can be located at:

So Optus beat Telstra to it - may as well move my contract over since mine has already ended this week.

Its a shame Telstra is still in the dark, but Optus has a release date and stock.

I hope to hear from Telstra soon to know if they actually have news.

We just ordered 20-50 units from Optus Business.  Hopefully arriving any day now.

Re: Blackberry Passport

Spoke with my local Telstra shop, they said they have no idea. Apparently if stores know something, its based on the website information... At the moment of writing (2 days after Optus started selling BB Passport) there is still no section in the "stay informed" page that allows you to choose Blackberry as a brand to be given information on.

Id like to get more information. But Telstra just doesn't pay this section of their business enough...

Re: Blackberry Passport

BlackBerry passport will probably have a late release in Aussieland. The passport is selling out quickly in other countries and its not the easiest phone to produce. They also didn't make many passports to begin with. BlackBerry put themselves in a bad position when they released their first version of BlackBerry10 o.s on the z10's and q10's. It took a couple of updates for them to get the o.s right but by then the consumers had already moved on. Now they've got a kick ass phone with the passport but they aren't in a position to make millions before the product is released. Hurry up telstra or i'll be buying these for my staff outright.

Optus went to back orders last week.  Less than a full week out of the gates and they are already sold out.  Not getting this device as soon as humanly possible would be a bad business move.

Re: Blackberry Passport

We normally don't get information ahead of official announcements, but since there is still no Blackberry option on the keep informed page linked to at the start of this thread, I would think that it's unlikely we'll be getting the Passport.

Re: Blackberry Passport

I too have been thrashing around looking for a Passport.

So strange that they are utterly uninterested in this device, it looks like a ripper.  The OS is far better than anything else on offer.  I bought a Samsung S5 outright as a stop-gap solution but hate it so much I bought a new Q10 until I could lay my hands on the Passport.

Not sure I will like the lack of symbols on the physical keyboard but it still has to be better than the Samsung bag of sick I bought.

I want a Telstra supplied and supported device but if I cannot get that, I will have to go to Kogan (spit) or Optus and take what I can get.

Re: Blackberry Passport

Hi McTodd,

You're right, the Passport is a ripper of a device.  The combination of physical and virtual keyboard is a real winner and I think takes the idea of productivity to a whole new level.  The keys you always need (the alphabet) always there and the keys you sometimes need (everything else) come and go when needed to save screen space.  I'm loving mine.  Had it for a month now and I couldn't imagine using anything else.

I picked up my old Q10 the other day and it felt like a toy phone.  Hope you get hold of one soon.

Re: Blackberry Passport

Is telstra going to release the BlackBerry passport in February along with the BlackBerry classic and the passports first o.s update (10.3.1). It makes sense to this because the passport is an innovative new product and no doubt the original o.s 10.3 will need some tweaking.

Is this what Telstra is doing?
Please advise because if you aren't going to support BlackBerry 10 i'll need to take my business elsewhere.

Given I do not want notifications for ALL phones available from Telstra, I will just keep an eye on this thread.

My contract came up today and, if it really is March 1st, I will hold off until then for news.

Anyone got any more information?  I'd love to give this device a run and I do NOT want to buy from Kogan (have experienced that nightmare before) or some Hong Kong retailer.
