Telstra Home NBN via HFC should allow multiple phone lines

The Telstra Smart Modem is able to support up to 8 phone lines, one for each of the two physical sockets on the modem, and one for each of up to 6 coreless handsets that can register to it.

 

However, currently home NBN services via HFC only support one phone line, no more.

 

Telstra should allow home NBN customers to have more than one phone line per NBN HFC connection.

 

Currently the only option for multiple lines is to take up a business service, which is more costly.  Then if you have Foxtel that might also cause problems.

 

Maybe there could be a combined home/small business offering that allows a combination of home and small business services on the one NBN connection (e.g. home phone line , business.phone line, home internet, or home phone line, business phone line, business internet etc.).

NBN Services not on FTTP are all affected not just HFC From my understanding the modem can connect up to 5 DECT Cordless handsets to the modem it self (not including phones connected to DECT base stations connected to the green phone ports on the back of the modem) and use 4 simultaneously. Thanks for submitting your idea, regrettably, this is not something we will be looking to implement.

 

As @343GuiltySpark has mentioned you can connect up to 5 handsets to the service already, which should fulfil the needs of a residential consumer.

@lironl2 just to add some more detail to this since I've been reading up on the voice platforms used while on over night shifts. The system the consumer landline services uses only supports 1 number. Where as the system that business phone services run off has support for multiple numbers built in.
