Excessive data usage whilst on wifi

My partner and I have iPhone 5s'. He has 1.5 GB and I have 1GB/mth. I am almost exclusively using wifi as I get employer supplied wifi and I have a large home wifi allowance. My partner only gets wifi at home and claims not to use his phone much while at work. Sice the beginning of our new billing period (14/9/14) we have both used nearly one third each of our allocated data. I have not had this issue before so am wondering if there has been an app update that is causing this data usage when not in use/in the background.

There is a chance that is a possibility. If you don't have any apps that track data, then it's hard to tell which ones are using the mobile data vs any WiFi. 

Any worries when it comes to mobile, best team to help is our mobile faults team on 132200 (say mobile phone fault), and they are open 24/7.

I've just printed off my daughter's data usage - she has managed to use 58% of her 2GB allowance in just 7 days.  The detailed usage report shows me that most of the data was used while she was at home on our wifi.  How is this possible.  It seems whenever I ask a question around any of this Telstra either blame me, her or the phone for magically changing its own preferences.  My wifi signal is solid, indeed in my home we are better off on wifi than the telstra network which can be patchy in our location.  How can this be?

Heya DataUsageDrama,

It is very easily possible for your daughter's mobile device to switch between accessing the network and accessing Wi-Fi when it becomes available.

Which mobile device does your daughter have?
