Manual Data Limit Ends in Large Bill

I have 75gb of data on my Samsung S8 phone that I use to connect my laptop to the internet. With my plan if I exceed this Telstra automatically sends me 1gb for $10.

To avoid excess data usage I went into my phone settings and manually set a data limit of 30gb thinking the phone would disconnect at this point and I could save some data for later in the month.

What happened however was when the manual 30gb limit was reached I got a text from Telstra to say I had used all of my 75gb and gave me 1gb for $10. This happened on an overnight download and now I have a very big phone bill.
