It's a big network... It could be a problem with your local tower, could be a problem with your SIM, or could be a problem with your phone. Is your phone indicating that you are connected to 4G and just not downloading data, or has it fallen back to 3G?
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
