Telstra.wap charges

My other family mobile phone has a pre-paid plan with another company which used Telstra 4G.   When I check the usage for any given month there is a list of telstra.wap charges about every 20 minutes through the whole 24 hour day/night.   This phone is rarely used so a monthly bill reads something like    Mobile calls  :  $1.32,  data usage (all telstra.wap) $2.33.    As the phone is obviously not being used all night and day, but this .wap is being used, I need to find a way of stopping this cost.   I know it is a Wireless Application Protocol but I don't need it searching all day and night so there must be some way to stop this.    Any advice please

Have you turned of cellular data?

Android
Settings > Data Usage > Flip mobile data off

IOS (iPhone)
Settings App > Cellular > Flipp Cellular data switch to off

Android
Settings > Data Usage > Flip mobile data off

IOS (iPhone)
Settings App > Cellular > Flipp Cellular data switch to off

I am not sure what turning that, or on my phone the wireless indicator, does. I am worried it may turn off my airdrop. I will give it a try on the affected phone.

Turning off cellular data on the phone should not effect Airdrop as it uses WiFi and Bluetooth.
