Not one iPhone security update?  Not needed?? Or handled via another mechanism?

Because it was the last update released for the phone, Samsung dropped support for it ages ago (it just took them this long to localise it for Telstra/Australia). I'm just happy with getting anything at all. This is what happens when you launch a million different models every second day (gross exageration but hope you get what I mean), they cannot support all of them so they don't. Unless the S7 is something amazing (the S6 left me feeling very dissappointed), I'm done with them too.

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

@Sydney000 as @tomrob95 says iPhone updates are handled differently. While Telstra does do testing, as the hardware and software are entirely controlled by a single company, the process is far simpler than other operating systems.

@Tornado not that I am aware of, have you tried checking through the PC software? Updates are often rolled out progressively over a number of weeks.

@BenjiC apologies, I thought I had already replied to you when I heard back. The devices team were given that version number by Samsung so it does appear to be so.

What about the Galaxy note 10.1 2014 way overdue for an upgrade to lollipop

I am not a Telstra employee, so all opinions are my own, I have been around Telstra products a long time and have a reasonably strong general tech knowledge. .

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

What a list.. I'm convinced beyond doubt, that firmwares should be completely taken out of the hands of telcos and phone manufacturers.
For example, take windows 10.. No matter store you buy from, no matter what manufacturers you get it from, it's still the same operating system. Do the isps withhold or test windows 10 on their internet network, ? Nope! Do any of the manufacturers or isps and even telcos test or block windows updates, , ? Nope.. So why isn't the same protocol applied to mobile handsets and tablets?
Why can't every handset be sold with stock universal operating system, ? Ie Android, windows, apple?

Great thanks for the heads up have just set mine updating.

If only the manufacturers like Samsung would keep their changes to a minimum and get their updates out faster Android might win the fight for dominance.   My Nexus 7 has been running Marshmallow for a week or two now and has noticeably improved battery life for it.   I'm guessing we'll be lucky to see it on the S6 by mid 2016 based on Samsungs past performance, particularly Samsung Australia who are behind almost every other country.

Samsung should seek to sell two devices. One with tickets and the other with stock Android. Guess which one would sell best?

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

@auxr6 what devices receive an update is not something we control. We are provided updates to test at the manufacturers discretion.

@KitEKat interesting thoughts. I am not sure why it is handled this way but I imagine it has something to do with duty of care. If your phone doesn't work you cannot call 000. If your computer doesn't work, the repercussions are much less likely to harm.

@freeagent09 the availability date is estimated and can change for a range of reasons. It is also important to understand that updates are often rolled out progressively rather than being available to everyone at once.

Telstra don't release the update, we only test it, the manufacturer handles the actual roll out.

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

Would niece know Telstra is testing Windows 10 Mobile yet. ???. @KitEKat alas, we are at mercy the Telco's till OEMs start to stand up to them.

Although why telco rom branding persists in this day and age, still confounds me

[ Edited ]

Our product team have double checked with HTC and the update for the M9 is definitely rolling out, it has seen quick high uptake. If you have not yet received the update AND have tried to check manually using the PC software please send me your IMEI number and current software version in a private message.

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

I have a Galaxy S6 and TAB S2 9.7 4G both were purchased unlocked from JB. I am using both on the Telstra network Pre Paid.

With regards to unlocked devices does anyone know if the Device Manufacturer or the Telco control the updates?.

The reason I am asking is I have had an update on each device over the last two weeks with regards to Stagefright in the last couple of weeks and on the list above both devices have upgrades listing with regards to Stagefright etc.

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

The table has been corrected, it seems that a typo on an entry into the system we use to track software updates has caused some confusion. The update we have been testing for the HTC M9 is 5.1 not 5.1.1 and the software version number is 2.9.841.5

Thanks to all those who provided details and apologies for the confusion caused.

@Lilmeh we have the build numbers but they were left out to save space. I will look at how we can integrate in future.

@EBXRVI if the device was puchased directly, not on a Telstra plan or in a pre-paid kit then updates should come directly from the manufacturer. When you turn on the phone are there Telstra logos?

Re: Device Updates 16/11/2015

@CraigR @DanK Good afternoon Gents,

Are you able top advise when to expect the Note 5 bug fix to come through. As per your table stating on 23/11, I am yet to see anything come through. Has this been rescheduled or retracted.

Thank you
