2 way splitter fault

Hi, wan down one week ago,I  checked it myself, there has one 2way splitter(Zinwell 5-1000Mhz MSG-2A) ,one to modern one to Foxtel IQ,the modern can't work well ,but out to Foxtel IQ works well(both 2 out).when took the cable in direct to  modern then internet well.So I think the splitter fault.

But I just got one 2way splitter(5-900Mhz) in Jaycar. replace the fault one,the modern can work well through the out,But the wan down when conected the another out to Foxtel IQ ,Internet and TV can't work the same time.

So what shall I do? Does the new splitter could be used  ? shall I must replace the same splitter(Msg-2a)?Where get it?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: 2 way splitter fault

If both the old and new splitter are only working with one service at a time I would suggest calling tech support, they can send replacement equipment such as a splitter or may be able to identify other potential causes and if required will arrange a technician to come out and look into it for you.

Re: 2 way splitter fault

When you add a spliter the level off the signal is halved in both directions. If there is a cable fault and the signal is already marginal it the internet might work with the modem connected directly to the cable but not via the splitter due to level of signal being halved..

Could you post your cable line stats with modem connected directly to cable and some one here might be able to tell if there cable fault? These a the location you will find the line stats on the different modems.

On a Cable Home Network Gateway
(CG3100D):
http://192.168.0.1/ > Connection (Under Maintenance)

On a Cable Gateway Max
(C6300BD):
http://192.168.0.1/ > Advanced > Broadband Connection > Connection Settings

If using a Cable Adapter + Gateway
(CM450. Might need to plug directly into the adapter with Ethernet):
http://192.168.100.1/ > Broadband Connection > Connection Settings

I am not an expert but the upload power is high which indicates a fault. Do you agree @343GuiltySpark

Re: 2 way splitter fault

So what shall I do?the fault of cable in or splitter or modern or the Cable to Foxtel?

Shall I need  calling tech support requiring a technician to look into it?

Re: 2 way splitter fault

It is not cable to the Foxtel box but the cable in that is faulty. Probably not the actual cable but the tap in the street where the cable to your premises connects to the main street cable.

When Foxtel box is connected you have the extra load of the Foxtel box decreasing signal level and also the signal from Foxtel box causing interference which is why it works okay until Foxtel box is connected.

If you look at the power in the down direction it has decreased by 3 dbmV. 3 db is equivalent a 50% reduction in power. The upload power is the same because that is a measurement of the output power from the modem which is not effected by the splitter.

You will still need a Technician.
