Re: ADSL port check

If you call the ADSL team on 13 22 00 they should be able to tell you if you're on an ADSL 2 service. If you are, the speed you're getting could be due to a fault or just your distance from the exchange.

Re: ADSL port check

If you log into your account, you should be able to see the type of plan your ADSL service is on.

The speeds available over ADSL will vary due to the technology. The main factors that can impact the speed is the cable distance between your home and the exchange, the type of DSLAM that your service is connected to, as well as the type of cabling and the attenuation results.

Whirlpool has an article that provides a lot of information on the relationship between ADSL speeds, attenuation and cable distance.

Other factors that you should consider is the Wi-Fi coverage in your home - if you use Wi-Fi - and the number of devices that you have connected and utilising your service at the same time. This can include software updates or file sharing programs that are running in the background.

You can test the quality of the Wi-Fi connection and map the coverage in your home using the Telstra Home Dashboard App which is available from the Apple Store and Google Play.

Hope this helps

Re: ADSL port check

Probably not, adsl speeds are dependent on the line length. Ive seen hundreds on customers on adsl2 with similar speeds

Re: ADSL port check

Yeah, keep checking as quite a few years back we upgraded from a std ADSL plan to an ADSL2+ plan and they didn't switch something over in the exchange!
Took a couple of calls to get it sorted though as we were the same, were only getting ~5mbs off-peak when we should have been getting over 10mbs Smiley Wink
Now we get ~13mbs off-peak and down to ~5mbs during heavy periods like school holidays etc Smiley Wink
Just about to switch to NBN so it should be like chalk and cheese Smiley Happy
