I cannot get the Ethernet connections on my Telstra Smart Modem to work. Everything else is working fine but my home security system and tv which are connected by Ethernet will not work - the lights on the ends of the Ethernet cables are not on.
Are the lights on the Ethernet ports on the modem doing anything? Do you have a laptop that you can plug in to see if anything happens? Even if there is a configuration problem, then a light should go yellow.
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
