Billion 7800 Config Settings

Answered

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times but can anyone help with settings for ADSL on Billion 7800N.

I tried the standard settings on this link https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/broadband/manage/bigpond-standard-settings but to no avail.  I've also searched through other similar posts.  DSL light is solid green but internet is amber.

The system log on the router has a few messages:

Couldnt increase MTU to 1500

PPP LCp UP

Remote Message: access denied: request timeout

CHAP Authentication Failed

I know my username and password is correct.  Other settings I've taken from the link.

What should my IP Address be - Auto?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

Finally got my 7800n up and running and the SIP phone connected straight away.

A bit further research and a change of protocol from PPPoE or PPPoA to MPoA established the connection. Credentials were not required on the router.

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

Check that these settings are correct

VPI (Virtual path identifier) 8
VCI (Virtual channel identifier) 35

Check that your connection method is PPPoA

I don't think PPPoA asks for IP but it would be auto

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

Thanks Glenn for the reply, thats the config I currently have.  Any other thoughts on what the issue could be.

I also have a telstra modem which is working but need to connect the Billion 7800n to troubleshoot mt polycom phone that is connected to a cisco phone router.   The reason for this is that the phone previously worked with the Billion but now no longer works with the new telstra router.

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

This is driving me insane.

I've tried

PPoE wity LLC

PPPoA With VC/MUX

IP Auto

Auto and Manually put in DNS servers

Has anyone got any other settings that I may be missing out on?

I've just put in a default username in below image but I know the one I'm using is correct

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

Everything looks fine to me, can you try another router see if it works.

What does the log say.

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

yep, I've tried a Telstra Max Gateway and it works fine.

Log is saying different messages in relation to failed endpoint, PPP authentication.   Nothing I can easily translate to making a change in the router config

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

Did you have to put your username and password into the gateway max modem for it to work, or did it work of its own accord? A way to find out as well is to factory reset the gateway max and give it 5 - 10 mins and see if it picks up on your details automatically when it reconnects.

The only thing i can think of is if you are in a Hybrid (IPoE) service area, it could be possibly causing issues with your Billion

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

That might make sense, I did have to put in my password at the beginning but I've just changed it to the incorrect one on my router and my internet still works on the Telstra Max Gateway, is their anyway I can get another Router to run.

Also, would this Hybrid type connection stop my SIP?

Appreciate your reply

Re: Billion 7800 Config Settings

The hybrid aspect can be removed by level 2 bigpond tech support or by a lot of the Telstra Platinum on shore team, unsure if Platinum offshore has access. It will revert the connection back to standard PPP authentication. Level 1 BPTS should be able to identify if the service is Hybrid

@Shellock is there anything you can do here?

Oh and I don't think it can interfere with VOIP
