Buying a wifi extender

Hi,

So for the past month ive had an issue with my internet where the my ping would spike roughly every 10 seconds to 3000ms. I have tried Telstra support by trying to troubleshoot the issue myself and everything was "fine", Ive tried calling Telstra 3 times for help and no luck. Apparently my the "Smart modem Gen 2" only has 10 metres wifi range which doesnt make it to my PC. So im looking to buy a wifi extender and I want to go with this one: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/netgear-ex-6250-ac1750-wi-fi-mesh-extender?variant=20376408981602. But it is 1750AC where as my Wifi adapter i use is 1200AC. Is this just going to be a waste of money and i should buy a 1200AC extender, or will the 1750AC extender be better even though my adapter is 1200AC?

Thanks,

James
