Cable present at house but not available according to Telstra database

We are about to move into a newly built apartment and we've visited the Telstra store and spoken on the phone about getting a technician to check the connection to transfer our current cable internet. We haven't been successful and have been told we would have to get ADSL even though there is a cable connection for the building. Any suggestions?

If the property has been subdivided (multiple apartments where there used to be one house), then there may only be a single HFC cable allocated for the entire property. This could be used for one apartment, only. The others would need to be serviced by copper cable.

Hopefully the apartments have been built so that they can be connected to the NBN easily, otherwise you are going to be up for further headaches down the track.
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
