Can I use my Telstra TG797n V3 with my new NBN Service (Fibre to Node)

Answered

Hello,

I have a existing ADSL service and an existing Telstra Gateway TG797n V3 modem.

I am upgrading to NBN and have received my F@st 5355 VDSL model connection kit. However it only has 2 LAN ports and i really need the 4 from my old TG797n V3

Can I use my TG797n V3 for my NBN service?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I really dont want to hae to set up a second router.

No you cannot. TG797 is not an FTTN VDSL2 modem.

However you may be able to turn TG797 into a switch and hook it up behind F@st 5355 and use the additional ethernet ports on TG797.

Because your NBN service is an FTTN service you will not be able to use it as the TG797n V3 only supports ADSL and does not support VDSL

You could use it as an access point to provide extra LAN ports

Changing IP address of TG797n3 to 10.0.0.139

Turn of DHCP

Connect LAN port of F@st 5355 to LAN port of TG797n3

You can use the TG797 on NBN. You just need an ADSL to NBN conversion kit which is a little cord you plug in and can get from Telstra

@Lodzau

The only supports ADSL not VDSL so is not compatible with FTTN

Well that is a problem, as mine has been buzzing along with my 100Mbps NBN FTTP for 6 months so far...

I get ethernet direct from the NBN NTD I guess.

So Gamoa, are you saying you are using the TG797n direct with NBN FTTP with no converter????

I will have FTTN...
