Can connect to some websites, cannot connect to others

Hi,

Currently, I cannot access most websites/web services (steam, reddit, discord, news websites, speedtest.net and outlook just to name a few), but can access others such as Facebook and Youtube. When I open the websites, I get a DNS error OR an error saying the site took too long to load.

Android devices have issues connecting to the internet -- they connect to the internet but state "CONNECTED, NO INTERNET" under the wifi indicator. Sometimes, however, if we connect to Telstra Air, sign in, disconnect from it and try to connect back to the internet, it successfully connects... not sure why.

My laptop is a windows laptop and I've updated it with all possible updates. Strangely, Apple devices can connect to the internet and access all websites, albeit very inconsistently.

I've heard of issues w/ the DNS, and I've changed the DNS provider to Google.

I've also contacted Telstra support and all they do is tell us to restart the modem and wait 10 minutes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Modem: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2

(I believe we're on NBN)

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Did you change the DNS provider in the modem for both IPv4 and IPv6?

What model modem and firmware version do you have? The model no and firmware no is displayed on LHS of log in screen?

If you disconnect the modem's DSL port or WAN port and wait until modem connects to 4G backup (Front light turns blue) are you able to connect devices that could not connect and can you access all websites.

Re: Can connect to some websites, cannot connect to others

I have a very similar issue. Android devices are getting 'CONNECTED, NO INTERNET' and receive a DNS error when trying to browse websites. However, Apple devices are mostly fine albeit the occasional slow loading of a website and the odd timeout. I too changed the DHCP DNS provider to Google and disabled non essentials services including uPNP, Samba, IPv6 on the LAN but the problem still exists. I have the same modem as the OP, Arcadyan LH1000 with Firmware 0.09.11r . This is a very strange issue...

Re: Can connect to some websites, cannot connect to others

I have been using same modem LH1000 firmware 0.09.11r for past two days with no problems. Have several android devices connected plus windows PC and a occasional an iPad.

Using Telstra DNS.

LAN IPv6 enabled.

UPNP enabled

SMB enabled

Band steering disabled.

Have change WiFi Network name and password to match old network.

Changed LAN IP address range of modem to match old network.

Connected to NBN FTTN,

On the Internet connection page do you have both a IPv4 and a IPv6 address?

Is firewall set to normal and Dos protection disabled?

Hi @cf4 , yes both IPv4 and v6 addresses are set. Firewall is set to normal and DoS protection is not enabled. I'm starting to think the modem may be faulty. I have a spare Gen 1 SmartModem, I think I will swap the modems over to see if the issue goes away.

@tklawl do you still have the same problem or did you fix it somehow?

The problem is still present.

Seems to persist on the 4G backup connection too, which is strange.

That is odd. I will be swapping my Gen 2 modem over for a Gen 1 this afternoon to see if the problem goes away, I will report back shortly.

Quick update, I swapped out the Gen 2 for a spare Gen 1 and Android devices worked fine.

Thanks for the heads up. I will contact Telstra and see what can be done.
