High Ping/Latency from Adelaide to Singapore (200ms+)

Answered

Hi Telstra Team,

Hoping I might be able to get some help with this issue. I have been told that people generally receive about 110 - 130 latency from Adelaide to Singapore servers. However I have been testing connections and pinging different gaming server IPs and am receiving 200-220 ping constantly.

Tracing route to sgp-1.valve.net [103.28.54.1]

Here is a recent trace route and the results aren't promising compared to others.

I am wondering if there is a routing issue, or something else?

If someone could check this issue out that would be fantastic. I am currently getting better connection to the West of the United States at 180ms which seems odd.

Cheers,
Michael.

Hard to say. There are a couple of shunt faults between hong kong and singapore that could be potentially responsible

Indeed, as this has been the case a couple of times in 2017 = seems this particular cable is rather susceptible...

I looked at that as well and dismissed it, as it wasn't your routing path, completely not taking into account that it may cause congestion if traffic is being redirected through sydney's International fibre links *facepalm*

You are completely correct, the mw3 fault could potentially cause some congestion/latency as well
