High Ping/Latency to Singapore (230ms+)

Hi.

I play some games on, and near servers in Singapore/Sri Lanka. A few weeks ago, my ping was a stable 140-150ms, which was acceptable. After a computer restart due to windows updates, I've been getting pings of over 230ms.

 

My other question is, why is my initial ping to my modem so high? It's a wired connections, and If I ping just my modem, it shows the normal >1ms. I tried trace routing to 8.8.8.8 which is a google DNS, and it showed similar ping as the trace route below.

 

Can anyone help explain why?

There is an issue with the cable from perth to Singapore, this has caused increased latency as the trafic is routed differently.

Its weird that the latency to your modem is so high on the trace route but not on the ping

Is there a way to track this issue with the cable? I know something happened awhile ago, sometime late 2016, early 2017 I believe, but that was fixed? My ping was high then too.

The cable regularly seems to have issues. A new and much higher capacity one is currently being constructed.
