It appears today that routing from Sydney to Singapore is going via Hong Kong rather than Perth adding about 150ms.
Vocus Group service status has no reported issues at the moment so I'm not sure why the routing has changed?

i just vpn'ed to aarnet, and their routing is ok getting around ~110ms rather than 230ms, not sure what Telstra are doing, maybe this is a cost thing...
Don't expect this to last. AARnet is currently in proces of weeding out sites that should not deserve AARnet treatment... Right now, I cannot for example access brightspace's community site (https://community.brightspace.com/s/) which is a legitimate site for our LMS because AARNet is blocking it. AARNet is going hard against anything and anyone misusing their bandwidth… And you know what? I agree with them - as long as they do it right!
I am not saying that all is wrong, but, I agree with other people that domestic accounts do not get guaranteed latency... My Telstra latency from home is around 218ms, my Microsoft AU Azure is around 90 ms… But then my Azure is commercial account, while my Telstra is domestic account...
- Vocus Sea-Me-We 3 in financial trouble
- Telstra not interested in peering with Vocus
- Telstra firing staff
- Who cares about routing, just make the netfix high bandwidth **bleep** happy
- Over paying for VPN just to get better routing to singapore
- Wish I had Aussie Broad band as in option as opposed to the my Telstra lockin single option
- Wish there was an option to select ping over bandwidth as a network profile
So I called up Telstra support for **bleep**s and giggles, and they don't even know what international routing is, nor there colleges that where asked when I was on hold. They did suggest that I sign up for Telstra platinum that could help, they give extra support for hard to setup things, like home printers and routers, sigh..
when nbn, when aussie broadband
So for me to get Aussie broadband (company that understand and responds to these requests) I'm going to have to move house
Looks like the VPN I'm using is getting worse (sharing with bandwidth hungry people is not great)
And being Telstra velocity I'm locked into Telstra and can not get NBN
Life sucks
So it appears a new sea link to singapore via INDIGO-West of which telstra is a partner of has been newly active for just over a month, so hopefully routing can be updated soon. I know my vpn and work connection use the superloop already.
So is appears yesterday things started to come good, ping times appears to be close to what it used to be (could be a little better by going sydney to perth directly, but good enough)
