Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

Answered

Recently, the line rate setting in the modem (tried 3 different ones) has changed from around 11 or 12 000 to 6140 - max line rate has always hovered around 13000. Upload max and current are the same varying at aroung 1042.The 6140 NEVER varies.

Speedtest - upload has not changed at around 0.8 or 0.9 - download has dropped from 11 (ish) to about 5.

Whichever modem I set up gives the same answer. I have tried 587nV3, 797nV3,and a TP-Link Archer D7.

It is the sudden setting in the modem that I am querying,

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

6140 means DLM (Dynamic Line Management) has kicked in. It could be due to a potential fault on the line. It is not a setting in the modem, it is network based.

You can try having a chat with bigpond tech support and get them to investigate as there is usually a reason for it to occur in the first place

If you really want to try and shake it off yourself, you can set your internet profile to fast, then back to standard in MyAccount

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

Hi EmilyST,

I, too, am on the Sunshine Coast - Sippy Downs - Buderim Exchange.

I haven't done anything but queried in here - just to check if anyone has had the same issue, or a resolution.

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

Thanks Yastiandrie , I might just give the profile thingy a go before I ring tech support.

I was worried about what it said about making the connection unstable etc etc..

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

Just done (submitted) the change to the profile - says it will take about 4 hours to complete.

Oh well - more midnight playing for me ! (If I still have a connection !!).

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

Hi Yastiandrie,

Well - the first part, changing the profile to "FAST" went well.

Speed back to normal - line rate 13.25.

I'll change the profile back to standard before I finish tonight, and check in the morning, assuming another 4 hour wait.

Thank you so much for this part of the trial. Brilliant.

As far as I can tell there is yet no instability.

Speedtest gave over 11 download.

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

OK.

I changed the profile back last night, and it is now sitting on standard again.

Line rate currently at 13.98 and upload at 1.02

Speedtest gives 11.95 and .91.

I do thank you so much for your help.

EmilyST - hope you are able to try this as well !!

Thanks,

Mac

Re: Line rate in modem set to less than half max line rate

i am getting the same problem, we were at fast Adsl2+ then it got changed to Standard a week ago and the internet went to a crawl though line rate was still 17mbps-1.02mbps, then suddenly today went to 7mbps-0.8mbps. now i rang up telstra a few days ago, they said they just changed the name from Fast to Standard because they just changed the name... I CALL ********, the people on at CS probably dont know anything what is actually going on. they said the drops outs were a problem though and would send someone out, we had 2 phones calls, both we didnt answer because the first was way too early in the morning, and the other was while i was at work. its a pain in the *** and needs to be fixed,
