NBN FTTN was meant to be connected yesterday. Since then I have had only 4G backup running though my modem.
How long after Telstra has "connected" the NBN will the service actually be available?

It should normally be no more than 4 hours.
Have you restarted the modem? A factory reset might be required as well, you will need to reenter your login details in to the Broadband Connection settings.
It sounds like there has been a delay in provisioning, which isn't completely unexpected.
If it doesn't connect today, try posting a message via either Facebook or Twitter and hopefully one of the consultants there will be able to check on the status of you order and give you further information.
