NBN FTTN Speeds

Hi,

I just had a simple question around is there any point about raising the speed of my FTTN service? Max I can get is 17mbs and I am roughly about 500m from the node. Just thought I would check to see if I really should be expecting higher speeds and if so, how can I fix this.

Thanks

Re: NBN FTTN Speeds

If you are only 500 Meters from the node you should defiantly get speeds faster than 17 Mbps. Even thought you might only be 500 Meters by line of sight the cable distance might be much greater and in some cases you could even be connected to a Node further away.

Could you post your modem's line stats, these will give an indication of what your FTTN link is capable off and what could be causing the low speed. On the Telstra modems the line stats are located here:

Telstra Gateway Max TG799 and Telstra Gateway Max II (TG800)

Re: NBN FTTN Speeds

Thanks for the reply. Turns out its quite a bit faster than 17mbs, closer to 24. I assume this is as good as I can get on FTTN?

Re: NBN FTTN Speeds

Your Noise margin is double the normal noise margin which indicates a stability profile has been applied to your line. A stability profile is applied when the link has drop outs and results in a lower speed. Have you been experiencing internet drop outs? There might be a faulty termination on the cable if you are suffering from dropouts.
