Nbn fixed wireless plans 100/40

Hi,

i read that nbn is offering isp’s 100/40 in early 2018.  I am currently on 50/20 which is good during off peak hours, but at peak hours, the network congestion slows my speed down dramatically.  I have two questions..

will there be any trials for 100/40 fixed wireless in south Spreyton Tasmania that I can sign up for?

are there any plans to upgrade tower or move customers across to a different band to alleviate congestion?

thanks

jason

Re: Nbn fixed wireless plans 100/40

Changing to 100/40 instead of 50/20 will not increase your speed if it is being reduced due to congestion. If speed is reduced due to congestion it is not being limited by the speed of the radio link but by insufficient capacity In either the link from the tower to the RSPs server or from the RSPs server to the internet. If you haven't already ring Telstra support and tell them about the congestion.

Thanks for the reply.

I have reported congestion before to telstra but was told on more than a few occasions that it was normal, and there was no guarantees of speed, even with the boost that I am paying for. Unless the attitude has changed there seems no point in advising again.

Depends on where the congestion is occurring. If it is caused by the tower's signal quality or it's fibre backhaul, that's not within Telstra's control

I am confused. According to other posts, if there is not enough capacity to service the customers on fixed wireless, Telstra can purchase more capacity. That would be within Telstra control? Maybe I am misreading this?

Re: Nbn fixed wireless plans 100/40

With fixed wireless there is 3 potential causes of speed issues;

One is wholly in control of Telstra
One is wholly in control of NBN Co and
One is in control of NBN Co but also limited by the technological limitations and environmental factors.

The first is CVC limitations, this is where the speed is Impacted during peak times because not enough capacity has been purchased by the RSP.

The second is backhaul to the tower, this is if NBN co haven’t provided enough capacity to the tower, this would be outside the control of the RSP and they could have more CVC then their demand but still not help.

The third is reception sort issues, if the tower distance is causing the loss of speed, if the weather is impacting the speed, these are somewhat in nbn control and somewhat limited by the technology and somewhat impacted by factors such as environment.

Re: Nbn fixed wireless plans 100/40

Thanks for the reply and detailed explanation.

i rang telstra again tonight and was told that the tests on their were inconclusive.  Someone from their specialist team apparently will ring me tomorrow and with some luck maybe they can fix it or figure out where to from here.

there has been quite a bit of nbn maintenance work in the past couple months that telstra have advised me of.  No idea what nbn were doing, but so far that has not helped.

I hope it it is something that the isp can help with as if it’s nbn I suspect that would take a lot longer.

Hello...Telstra owned mobile wireless internet is brilliant and does not suffer all the problems you experience. If you're using around 50 gigs it's a deal. Thanks
