Set up of NBN on Telstra Chat - Personal information

Answered

On "Chat to Purchase" the NBN, did anyone get asked for personal information like:

• Number of Dependents
• Occupation
• Name and Contact Number of your current Employer
• Years and months with your current employer
• Years and months with your previous employer
• Residential Status (own or rental)
• Years and months at your current address
• Years and months at your previous address      

This was required info to update my "profile" before my NBN order can proceed - without extra charges.

If you haven't had any postpaid services then yes, but I haven't needed to provide it again since I first set up my account (about a decade ago now) but I know that the requirements when a credit check may be done were updated within the last year, so if yours hadn't been updated since your account was first created (so maybe 30 years ago) they may have need to have the information on file just for those requirements.

These details are obtained as a part of the credit check that may be processed before a postpaid account is offered (as it is considered in the same family as a credit product).

Following the Royal Commission into loans, insurance, contracts etc,  companies contracting you to financial commitment, are now having to follow the "Responsible Lending" regulations to ensure they are not contracting customers beyond their ability to pay.

Haha, yes, well at least they are now following their requirement more knowing that they are more at risk of being held to it.
