Web links being redirected to http://mymodem.modem/

If my modem drops out when I click on a web link, the page goes to http://mymodem.modem/. However, when the internet is back up, that link then always goes to the modem settings, it never goes to the correct address.

I spent over two hours on Telstra help chat today, and they had no solution. I've read old threads but there is no helpful solution there, either. I've tried deleting the browsing history, restarting the modem, resetting the modem, logging in again, etc. I have a Gen 2 modem (but this also happened on the three other modems I've had since I've been with Telstra).

Does anyone know how to fix this? In the end I had to use a different computer to finish my work today, but this is completely impractical to do on a regular basis.

Any ideas appreciated :-)

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you

Sounds like your internet service isn't working if its being directed to that page

Yes, that's correct. However, the issue is that once the internet is back online, the links continue to go to the modem page when clicked, instead of to the address in the actual link.

Does this happen on all devices connected to modem or only your computer.

Re: Web links being redirected to http://mymodem.modem/

Well I am working on the same problem -- I have 2 computers connected to my network -- only 1 does the Mymodem trick and only with Meterology site  (BOM) ---- and this particular web page -- http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR782.loop.shtml#skip  -- only happens with shortcuts & bookmarks.

I can still cannot access this link  if I go to the home page and follow links - this particular web page is gone for me.

Just to clarify, have you cleared the browser cache & cookies (which is different to the browser history) and restarting the computer?

Can you also confirm the browser that you are using and if you have tried using an alternate browser?

Re: Web links being redirected to http://mymodem.modem/

Hi, I actually figured out yesterday that deleting the cookies works. Now if only the modem wouldn't drop out 20 times a day, I'd be set!! :-)

Hi, deleting cookies worked for me - might be worth a try.

Re: Web links being redirected to http://mymodem.modem/

Hi,

This has been happening to me for the last couple of days.  I havent experienced it before now.

I have the gen 2 also.  Unfortunately, my NBN drops out several times a day, sometimes a blip, sometimes for a few minutes (pretty much every time the wind blows or it rains... anyway, thats a different issue).

Can confirm that in Chrome clearing cached data (cookies etc) fixes the issue each time.  Funny that someone mentioned the weather radar at www.bom.gov.au - that seems to be a serial pest as far as this issue is concerned.

The modem is intercepting these requests and incorrectly diagnosing that the internet connection has dropped (or maybe it has dropped very briefly), from then on, it redirects.  I dont think its the browser at fault, as when I track the requests, the redirect comes from the gateway, NOT internally within chrome itself.

Anyway, hopefully a tech reads this - am happy to provide logs or tech assistance if required.
