nbn phone connection

HI - I received the modem and gateway a few days ago. After connecting, the phone doesn't work, the DSL is not steady blue and there are 2 lights on gateway that is amber for signal and magenta for onlne. Link and phone are not lit. Do we need to call NBN to install at our curbside separately prior to connecting the modem??

The modem is working in backup mode. If you are sure everything is connected correctly then your service might not have been connected. Ring Telstra NBN support 1800 834 273

Telstra screwed up my appointment despite letting them know multiple times my preferred time and date. very unhappy
