How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Answered

How can I have my listing on the whitepages removed?

I have joined Telstra last year and I'm sure I've chosen UNLISTED.

I called Telstra 2 months ago and not a single person in that contact centre has a clue - what actions were required from me.

Can someone please give me an answer, please?
Thank you.

To have your listing removed from White Pages online (obviously can't be removed if it's already printed in a book), you would need to ask for a silent line. From memory it costs $2.93/mth for this service.

Hi nzfrank2

Welcome to Crowd Support Smiley Happy

I would suggest speaking to a live chat consultant and ask to have your listing removed.

I have found them to be super helpful (never had an issue dealing with live chat consultants)

Post edit: Kalak is right in saying that there will be a fee to have your number silent

hi nzfrank2

As Kalak has advised, you just need to request for a Silent Number on your account. This cost is $2.93 per month.

I'm more than happy to have this added to your account for you, if you like. Send me a PM, and I'll make contact with you offline and we can organise this together..

Thank you very much everyone,

Ok, I'll think about the 'silent' option. I didn't know.

It's good that Telstra runs this wonderful community page, and lots of you are involved. Thanks again.

A no cost option might be an unlisted number is this possible?

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

If you would like an unlisted number then you will need to pay for a Silent Line. Secondary lines or fax lines are able to get unlisted at no cost and under certain circumstances some customers can have the Silent Line fee waived.

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

OK, $2.93 per month for a Silent Line.

Why does Telstra still charge $2.49 per month for a "Suppressed Address Listing"?

Why not print nothing and charge nothing?

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Hey BigBad64,

The Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) is an independent database that contains all public numbers including mobiles, listed, unlisted and silent numbers for ALL Carriers and Carriage Service Providers. It‘s part of Telstra's Licence Conditions to provide information for IPND.

Suppressed Address Listing or Line Block are now automatically provided a Silent Line for security purposes so there is actually no separate charge for this.

We can't print nothing and charge nothing because of License conditions as explained above. Thanks BigBad64.

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Hi all

Apologies if this has already been addressed as I'm new to CS.

AFAIK Sensis run all services concerning public facing disclosure of names, residential addresses and residential phone numbers, whether that be online, in hard copy phone books or any other media that I'm not aware of.

Telstra provides the phone services themselves.

So information, confidential I would suggest, flows from Telstra to Sensis. Telstra should require customers' consent to pass that information to another party. I'm sure that's covered off in the fine print somewhere.

If that's the case, can I request Telstra not to disclose this information to Sensis and hence save any fees I'd need to pay not to have my name, address and number disclosed publicly? It seems to me that consumers should have the right to exercise that consent, or not, as the case may be.

Thanks in anticipation, and apols again if this has been addressed already.

All the best.

Mike

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Hi Mike,

Telstra manages the Integrated Public Number  Database and as such we are required to include all numbers from all providers. This database is from where Sensis draw the info that goes into their various directories. The only process whereby your number is not listed in the database is the Silent Line Process which includes a small fee. There are of course some exceptions for this fee which you're welcome to discuss with us just here: http://tel.st/hsc3

Cheers, Tim

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

It was my understanding that you can in fact request your number be marked as UL (Unlisted) WITHOUT being required to pay for a Silent Line. Much the same as you can request an SA (Suppressed Address) to have only your name and number, but not address, printed.

http://www.commsalliance.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/1334/C555_2008.pdf - Section 4.1

Telstra will attempt to sell you a silent line, with a cost, but you are completely entitled to request an Unlisted entry for NO COST.

EDIT: I know of this option as I used to offer it, and provision it via Telstra's LOLO system, when I worked for Optus resale.

I would assume this is in place because it's pretty poor to essentially blackmail customers and say that unless you pay us we will disclose your privacy protected information.

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Hi,

Can a Telstra team member please respond to Kalak's message?

I'd be insterested of the outcome as I'm pretty sure I chose the UL option but have somehow been added to the database.

Thanks

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Hi NigelWTY,

This is due to current laws governing telecommunication companies in Australia. Current laws state that everyone is listed in the White Pages on an 'Opt In' basis and must make special provisions to 'Opt Out'. The exact opposite is the case in USA.

Aso for the previous comment about Unlisted for use a free service, yes this is possible and will not charge the customer. It does not prevent your details from be accessed via Sensis. Merely prevents the publication of the details. It would also not automatically provide the customer with CLI Line Blocking to prevent your jumber going out, and if done on the basis of security or personal threat related issues would not allow you to sue Telstra for damages.

Hi,

Will you be able to link the information about related business policies and goverment laws, so we can have a better understanding?

Thank you very much.

Why should I have to pay a monthly fee for you not to publish my personal information online?

If anyone else demanded money in order not to release personal information it would be called blackmail.

Dear Lindy,

I'd like a silent line and my address edited or removed from the White Pages.

I think the fee is around $3 per month.

Can this be organised by you?

Or should I contact a Telstra shop?

Yours,

@Damester

As Crowd Support is a public forum the reps on here aren't able to securely identify you as a customer and holder of a certain account.

Your best bet to have a $2.93/mth Silent Line added is to either give them a quick call on 132200 or jump on their Live Chat at the link below and they should be able to sort you out.

Totally agree.

Nothing short of blackmail, arrogance, and money gouging.

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

You can choose to be unliste without paying a cent. Telstra agents have failed to let me know this option despite repeatedly argued with them. Once i eacalate this to a complaint officer they told me yes it is possible to have unlisted number without payingn a single cent. I was dissapointed with Telstra on this as listing our numbers and address are breach of privacy. Why would you pay for your number to be not published? It doesnt make sense. I had an agent telling me my number was unlisted for years and found out yeaterday that it was a lie as i can see it in whitepages. Telstra only offered apology for this mistake. What good does it do while others were getting charged for this fee.

Your options are:
1. Listed number (no fee)
2. Silent number ($2.93 per month) AND
3. Unlisted number (no fee)

Dont accept what the agents tell you choose number 3. If they keep resiating just move to optus where they ask if your numbers are to be listed or not without a fee!

I terminated my contract because this is unacceptable to be lied about. Telsta you should start to be honest to your customer!

Re: How can I have my listing on the whitepages and Sensis removed?

Shocking , over three hours on the phone, now Telstra claim that the 3rd option unlisted is only for the printed verion of the whitepaper’s while the internet still have my details.

Any advice ?
