PHONE SIGNAL BUSY, PHONE DOES NOT WORK. Internet does work!

Tried to make a phone call, out of the blue the phone does not work at all. We have a Telstra Gateway modem with a T-box. The internet has not been interrupted (has been slower lately, but I can't see a connection). The phone is engaged all the time, when obviously it's not. Did the isolation test, no change at all. Tried desperately to report fault to Telstra, but after some time on my prepaid mobile, got told the hold time was over 20 minutes, and had to hang up. How do you report a fault when Telstra apparently makes sure you can't get in touch? I can't even find an email for them to get back to me, let alone a voice message via phone. This is our biggest phone company, you can't phone them? The voice light on the modem is out. Lucky I still have the internet, or we'd be stranded. I can't leave my octagenarian mother in a home without a phone. Anybody?

The techie help guy ran me through some procedures to connect and disconnect different lines on the modem, not all at once, put them back in specified order, trialled internet connection etc, and the blessed voice light on the modem re-established. Yay. In this household the landline is essential. The problem was apparently caused bya 'glitch'. Good to know. It works, so I'm happy.

Why did you hang up when you are in the cue for the next available operator to have a chat with you doing this will only make things harder for you to resolve your issue.

 

Telstra make it hard to get in touch I dont think so, here are alist of number that you can call at no charge with a Telstra number.

Yes my bills are up to date. Yes I have checked for outages. I hung up because I could not afford to hold any longer. Did you know free calls may not be free on a mobile phone? I expect I just spent 20 bucks.

I get it it can get expensive if you are not with Telstra however you made the comment Telstra are hard to call and lodge a fault, I was stating otherwise.

 

You can use the Telstra online chat if you like

You can pop into a Telstra store to lodge a fault or use there phones to call Telstra.

 

Perhaps borrow a mates Telstra mobile.

 

Use a land line.

Glad it's your opinion not Telstra's. The home phone doesn't work, remember? I tried the 24/7 home and internet online chat, guess what? not applicable to home phone & internet, it said. But I finally got through to a techie (THE best people at Telstra) and he helped me fix the problem. As of 5 minutes ago, the phone works!

Dear gmd83, I do agreed with you that it is usual occurance for long delay on the phone and I have had first hand experience. Telstra shops are mostly franchised and they will not let a customer use their phone. I suggest you switch off all the eqpts, wait for 5 mins and then switch them on again. Hopefully the system will reset itself and your phone is serviceable again.

I phoned 132203 no answer or sound. This is the info given on internet site for landline calls

The number you've called is used to report faults with a landline service.

Did you call this number from the phone that you have issues with? (we recommend calling from a service that is not experiencing a fault so we can troubleshoot)
