Telstra Call Guardian 301 MKII - Main Handset - Volume too low

I have two Call Guardian phones.  The main one has lost its volume.   The caller can hear me, I can't hear them.  I have now discovered that I can hear them if I switch over to hands-free.  I tried swapping the battery with the other phone (that is working fine) but that made no difference, so it isn't the battery.

I purchased it in Sept 2016, so it is technically out of warranty, but I still think that it shouldn't break this quickly

I LOVE this phone, but I have never had a problem with a phone before even after years and years of use, so this is disappointing, to say the least
