Re: no dial tone but can make and receive calls but can't hear anything

If you are using the green phone port on the modem and not a DECT handset connected wirelessly to modem it could be a faulty audio amplifier or audio decoder in the modem. Have you reported fault to support?

Re: no dial tone but can make and receive calls but can't hear anything

You should at least be able to make and receive calls with a Telstra phone. One of my phones is non Telstra and it works with no problems. I suggest you ring support again if they still blame fault on the phone lodge a complaint. You can lodge a complaint by calling 132200 and when asked for reason of call say complaint or you can use online form https://say.telstra.com.au/customer/general/forms/Email-Complaint
