senior citizen urgently requires phone repair

Answered

an edlerly neighbour has been left without a working phone as a result of the conversion to NBN. he has been without a phone for more than a week and has been told it will be at least another week until someone can call. this person is in his 80's, lives alone and is in poor health. is there anyone in Telstra servicing the Goolwa North area of SA who cares enough to give me a contact number that I can use to get him the support he needs?

Re: senior citizen urgently requires phone repair

@ozzialf, can't help with getting a Telstra technician out sooner, but we may be able to walk you through the process to get him up and running. The Tech support number is 1800 834 273.

In the meantime.....

Odds are that he has received a Sagecom F@st 5355 modem.

What you can try is:

Unplug his phone from the wall socket.

Plug the Modem into the wall (DSL socket on the modem to the wall socket).

Plug the phone into the Phone socket (Green) on the modem (make sure it's the Phone socket, not the Line socket)

Plug the modem into the power and turn on.

Wait for 10 minutes (it takes this long for the modem to register with the network).

Once the Phone light on top of the modem goes green, he should have a dialtone.

If not, get a pin or piece of spaghettti and press the little reset button that is the little hole directly above the power button on the front of the modem (press for 2 seconds). The modem will reset, and then wait for the 10 minutes.

If still not connected, it will definitely require a call to the 1800 number above.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help
