Bigpond ZTE633BP+ 7.2 - Do they work with Win 7?

Answered

Hi

I'm trying to move from XP to a newer Win 7 pc, but I'm having no luck at all getting the bigpond 7.2 3G modem (ZTE633BP+)  to connect.

I'm using Bigpond Mobile manager 3.6.10912, driver 2.1.040.6. The ZTE has firmware M01 BP.

I've set the APN to telstra.bigpond and I've triple checked the username and password. It has good signal strength, but it refuses to connect. I've even tried it on other Win 7 pcs with the same result.

I can plug it back iinto the old XP box and it connects no problem (Manager 2.13.16, driver 2.1029.0.5) So does anyone know for sure if its compatible with Win 7?

Any help would be very welcome. I've wasted a ton of time on this.

Thanks!

Re: Bigpond ZTE633BP+ 7.2 - Do they work with Win 7?

OK I found the answer.

Telstra support counldn't help (so far), so I fixed it myself (sad I know)

(1) Don't install the latest version from Telstra!  It's got issues with this card. So uninstall it.

(2) Install the version that is stored on the modem, although it will still fail to connect.

(3) The issue is that the old version on the modem will fail to install the zte drivers correctly.

So go into windows device manager  and update them by manual selection from the C:/program files/Telstra/drivers/32 folder. There should be about 4 zte devices there without drivers, so rinse and repeat for all.

(4) Add username and password. Connect, have a drink, and Enjoy.

Have you tryed running Bigpond Mobile manager in admin mode and compatability mode XP.

Right click on the programs exe , select properties and goto compatability tab and select the apropriate settings apply then try again, if it dose not work try another set of options.

bigpond nextG 7.2 MF636 usb modem: Vista problems

Another problem with the bigpond 7.2 usb modems. This time its a Vista problem.

Customer has an intel-based laptop (HP), but cannot seem to make it work.

Whats supposed to happen: plug in the usb modem, and at first, it will appears to the computer as a USB drive, and it will auto-run the install software.

What actually happens: Vista cannot detect the USB drive (so it cannot auto-run the setup application). In fact I cannot even manually copy the setup files from the USB drive.

I plug the 7.2 USB drive into my XP laptop, and it tries to run the Bigpond setup files automatically. OK, I cancel the Setup, and copy the Bigpond setup files to my own usb drive.

I plug both my USB drive, and the bigpond 7.2 USB into the Vista laptop.

I manually run the setup. It doesn’t seem to work correctly, but at least I can now go into the Control Panel -> Programs and settings … and uninstall the bigpond software correctly.

After a reboot, I can now plug in the Bigpond 7.2 USB drive, and its detected correctly. It auto-runs the setup, and before long, the bigpond software is running almost normally.

The problem now, is that the bigpond software wants to register with bigpond… fine, but after a short while, the software says that the registration failed.

I call Bigpond support, and I get some interesting solutions:

Shift-Click on the Options tab on the Bigpond Status window… This reveals a hidden diagnosis tab.

In the diagnosis tab, I tick the box that says: “signup has been completed for this device”.

I’m then told to go to the Account tab, and to enter the username (email address), and password.

After that, I can finally connect to the internet…

this was a sulution for vista it will probably work for window 7 as well if my first fix didn't work

Re: Bigpond ZTE633BP+ 7.2 - Do they work with Win 7?

Thanks for the ideas, but still no luck I'm afraid.

I've tried it in XP mode, and with admin rights and it made no difference.

I've also tried using both the software versions (ie the one stored on the modem and the latest one from the web.

I knew about the hidden dianosis menu and made sure I had the 'signup has been completed' box ticked.

Has anyone had this card actually work on WIn 7?
