Sim card in the post, mobile message about roaming day pass and unable to make calls

We are moving and the new place has nbn so a new mobile phone plan has been confirmed with telstra.

We can send and receive text messages and messenger messages and all great with wifi.

I dont know why we can't make phone calls?

We received sim cards in the post today.

Both our mobiles have the message that the day pass roaming is now available.

Both our mobiles are saying that we are not registered on network when we try to make a call.

Do i need the new sim card in the phone now before we move?
