WIFI 4G Advanced not accessing m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup

Answered

Telstra?  The user guide and modem both tell me to connect the device to my computer and go to http:/m.home or http://10.0.0.138 to setup but when I do that all I get is that the webpage is not available.

If I dont get a fix ASAP, I'll cancel the contract for misleading information and contact the TIO.

Re: WIFI 4G Advanced not accessing m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup

Hi All,

If you are have the 4G WiFi  or 4G Advanced connected via USB cable to your computer, and you are unable to access the modems interface via http://10.0.0.138 (BigPond) or http://192.168.0.1 (Telstra) then the first step is to check that the driver has installed correctly within the Device Manager (or equivalent). For those connecting via WiFi, make sure that the WiFi is showing as connected to the network. The WiFi keys should appear on the screen when you push the power button.

The default password is: admin. If you personalise this and you forget it, you will need to return the modem back to factory settings by holding in the Power and WPS button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds.

If you are still unable to log in or view the modem page, make sure that the cache on your browser has been cleared and/or try connecting with another device.

Whoa there! You know this is an open public forum where fellow consumers help others out.

Now although I can appreciate your frustrations I did notice you mistyped the address http://m.home and have you tried http://192.168.1.1 ?

Re: WIFI 4G Advanced not accessing m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup

I feel the same. Have had a frustrating 2 hours trying to sort a simple problem of connecting my modem to my laptop. It is very disappointing to see how many posts there are about Telstra modem problems. I buy something expecting it to work - not spend hours trying to fix something, so I can even get it working for the first time. As a medical specialist - if I had as many issues with the product I deliver, I would be de-registered by the Medical Board and on the front page of the newspapers. Get your act together Telstra.

Hi Bourbaud,

Are you connected to the device when trying to navigate to this page? It won't let you access it unless you are already connected to the device itself.

Please ensure the device you are using to connect to the Mobile broadband is actually connected before trying to navigating to m.home.

I have exactly the same problem and it is very frustrating.  I too feel I should be able to plug the 4g wireless in and get the software update.

How do I fix this please as I am about to take the useless thing back to Telstra.

Re: WIFI 4G Advanced not accessing m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup

Hi, got mine to work fine. The easiest way to do this is to find out what the ip address (see below) of your computer/tablet/etc is, once you have connected to the device via wifi (not before). The address should look something like 192.168.1.100 or whatever your's may have been configured to. Once you have this set of numbers you can type the same number into the address bar of your browser except change the last number after the last dot to 1 . In the above case it would be 192.168.1.1 . This should take you to the device page where you can make the changes you need.

On finding the ip address of your computer there are many guides on the internet - search Google or Bing or Duck Duck Go. On a Mac, right click the wireless signal icon in the menu bar, then click Open network preferences. Your ip adress will be on the opened window near the top right under the "Status: Connected"

Feel the same way. Have been stuffed round by Telstra for past week without being able to connect to 4G Wi Fi.

Will takre devise back to Telstra Collinades SA and leave device with staff accompinied by letter cancelling device for non preformance.

Its best not to deal with our National Telco. Bloody pathetic.

Hi Topendtraveller.

What issues exactly are you experiencing with the device - is it simply that you seem to only be accessing 3G networks?

To access the dashboard, there has to be a wi-fi connection between the computer/device you're trying to access the dashboard on and the wi-fi device.

Hi Crowbar,

I would recommend that you create a new thread regarding your issue unless it is directly related to being unable to access the modems interface via http://10.0.0.138 or http://192.168.0.1.

So that The Crowd can assist you, include as much detail as possible such as:

  • The model of modem
  • The operating system of your computer/devices
  • Are you connected to the modem via WiFi or a cable?
  • Any error messages that you see
  • What troubleshooting you have done so far

It's true. I too have been duped. 1 - http:/m.home doesn't seem to exist. And 2 - I bought a Telstra wi-fi ultimate pre-paid dongle, which was supposed to come with 5gb bonus data for 30 days. When it fired up, it says I have already used 5% of 4gb with only 21 days left. Why do I expect honesty in such a dishonest world anyway?

Re: WIFI 4G Advanced not accessing m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup

I too am having issues with my WiFi 4G not letting me access m.home for a software update and any information. I have 11 emails waiting and I cant look at them and have been ringing Telstra for months about this.

I see that the dates of these enquiries stem back to 2014 and continue into 2016. Sooo, why hasn't Telstra dealt with this issue, meaning fixed the problem????.

You Techies talk (type) as though talking to experienced it people. For example "Check your device manager has loaded the settings correctly" ????  Where & how does a novice do this.

I went to a separate forum (Thanks to Google finding it) and was able to to do the Run command & and check the ip address for my modem, & yes it is 198.162.0.1 as it should be.... so why aren't I able to log into the updates and receive my mesdsages from Telstra???  HEEEELP. & remember I'm not a Techie.

Please call Telstra Technical Support team on 133 933 so they can go through this with you.

If you don't know what they are asking for, advise them this and they will go through the steps for you more simply. They are there to help and would give support based on the knowledge of the customer. If you are not saying you don't know what a devise manager is then they will assume you know. You simply need to advise them what you have advised this page. Tell them your not a "techie" and they will go through this in more easier steps. You can also chat to us here http://tel.st/gq6m.

I have the same trouble.  My WIFI 4G Advanced will not access m.home or 10.0.0.138 to setup.  When I type http://m.home into a browser (i have tried 4) it says that the site cant be found.

The browsers all try to use my old NextG modem.  So I disconnected the modem and removed the soft ware for the NextG modem and tried again - still doesnt work.  All browsers say no connection.

I am using:-

-  Windows XP Pro - Service pack 3

-  WIFI 4G Advanced II

-  USB Connection

Browsers used:-

-  Internet Explorer

-  Google Chrome

-  Firefox

-  Opera

The old modem is the old NextG Blue Box

I have spent hours (literaly) on the phone to Telstra and they have not been able to get it to work.

Can you try downloading the updated driver from http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26036 and then connect the new Wi-Fi 4G advanced 2?

With the new device connected, if you go into the Device Manager, can you see any ! alerts next to anything in the list?
