using phone sim in different devices

Answered

Hi

I'm wondering if I can use my extra mobile phone sim in a data only device. I want to do this when I'm at home so that my son can "share" my data as we don't have NBN and are very far from the exchange and I feel that mobile data will be better?

Are there any contract restrictions? It's an unlimited data plan.

The CIS has a limitation that "Data is for personal use in a smartphone and for use in Australia."
From my understanding of the wording in the CIS is that if they detect it is being used outside that term then they can add further restrictions to the speed and or suspect the service.

Re: using phone sim in different devices

thanks... I guess it's a "no" then. Shame that Telstra don't offer bigger data for their data only services for in home wireless internet. I'm moving from an area where I had 100/40 NBN FTTP and now the best I can get is (if I'm lucky) a theoretical maximum ADSL 2+ speed of 24Mbps (I doubt it based on how far from the exchange) or Optus wireless at up to 12/1Mbps. Neither option is really making me very happy.

At this stage it is only the Mobile and Tablet plans that have the Piece of Mind Data, it might get extended... it was initially only mobile, then tablet, so might one day be included on other options.
