Billing and insurance

Hi, first time telstra customer. Can someone explain the way the billing works? I bought the phone on the 1st was sent a bill on the 3rd that's apparently due on the 18th. That's neither a month post or pre paid.
Also wondering if telstra offers insurance on top of your plan for your phone. They aren't answering my messages right now.

Telstra give you 14 days to pay a post paid bill.
If you received your bill on the 3rd... 14 clear days is about 18th.

Hello again....yes... Telstra offer Premium Care for mobile phones.
