Samsung S20 5G Devices – 5G and eSIM dual sim information

Samsung S20 5G devices offer dual sim capabilities, giving you the freedom to have two separate mobile plans (one physical SIM and one eSIM) on one device.

Visit our Samsung Hub to discover all the latest Samsung devices.

When using dual SIM on a Samsung S20 5G device, only one SIM can be 5G enabled at any given time. This means that the second service connected on the device will not automatically connect to the 5G network. You can manually configure the preferred SIM to allow 5G service.

When using 5G capabilities on a Samsung S20 device, you can choose to:

  • Use a 5G enabled physical SIM, and not use the eSIM.
5G will automatically be configured for the first enabled SIM.

  • Use a 5G enabled physical SIM, then add a second eSIM service.
5G will be enabled on the physical SIM service. The second eSIM service will need to be manually configured to enable 5G if desired.

  • Use a 5G enabled eSIM, then add a second physical SIM.
5G will be enabled on the eSIM. The second physical SIM service will need to be manually configured to enable 5G if desired.

  • Use a 5G enabled physical SIM in the handset first, then change to an eSIM service.
The eSIM service will need to be manually configured to enable 5G.

  • Use a 5G enabled eSIM in the handset first, then change to a physical SIM service.
The physical SIM service will need to be manually configured to enable 5G.

How do I enable 5G on the second service?

To configure the SIM/eSIM to ensure 5G is enabled on the required service:

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks
  2. Check ‘Network mode SIM 1’ or ‘Network mode eSIM 1’, and tap on the access technology setting to ensure ‘5G/4G/3G/2G (auto connect)’ is selected.

Good to know: When either SIM 1 or eSIM 1 is selected with 5G support, the 5G capable service will be used for mobile data.

How do I download eSIM?

Before you begin, ensure a working Wi-Fi connection is in place first.

Option 1:

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager.
  2. Under the eSIMs section, tap on Add mobile plan.
  3. After seeing ‘Searching for plan…’, followed by ‘No plans found’, tap on Add using QR code.
  4. Point the camera to the eSIM card QR code, and once prompted to ‘Add new mobile plan?’, tap ‘Add’.
  5. When prompted to ‘Turn on new mobile plan?’, tap ‘OK’.

When you return to the SIM card manager, if eSIM is the first SIM installed, the service will be automatically enabled to access 5G.

Option 2:

  1. Open camera and point the camera to the eSIM card QR code.
  2. When prompted ‘Mobile plan’, tap on the pop-up dialogue box.
  3. When prompted ‘Select device’, tap on ‘Phone’ (do not tap on ‘Watch’).
  4. When prompted ‘Add new mobile plan?’, tap ‘Add’.
  5. When prompted ‘Turn on new mobile plan?’, tap ‘OK’.
  6. Once the process completes, the screen will return to the camera app.
