Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

Hello,

So per the title, I have an Arcadyan LH1000 on fw: 0.07.05r. I've noticed that in the past month or two, there will be a random number of days when my internet drops out for a few hours at a time. Each time, I notice something like this spamming in the logs:

Packet loss can be anywhere from 20 - 40% over 30 mins - several hours (4+). I've noticed it happen at 5 PM - 8 PM, 7 PM - 11 PM, 9 - 10 PM, etc. It may last one day or over a few days.

So far from my googling, there hasn't been anyone else with this issue or knows what this means and how to fix it. I've tried all the level 1 troubleshooting + factory reset. Not sure what else to do at this point. Sometimes when it goes away I hope it's fixed, only for it to return days or weeks later.

Please help.

The problem could be a intermittent line fault. If you have a FTTN/B or ADSL connection post the link line stats (Advanced > Diagnostics > xDSL) For other types of connections post the Network stats (Advanced > Diagnostics > Network).

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

Looking through the logs since last night, it stopped at this time:

19.07.2019 22:46:00 WAN: eth0 BFDv6 Supervision fails once. Fail Count = 1

That was the last count.

I have an HFC connection. Per request:

xDSL currently (no drop outs as of now):

As you have ab HFC connection could you provide the network stats?

I found the Arcadyne frought with issues.

The Technicolor is much better sorted.

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

Funnily enough, I had the Technicolor before which was fine up to a few months before I replaced it with the Arcadyan because it kept rebooting randomly but constantly.

I haven't really had issues with the Arcadyan till now with these dropouts. The 5G Wi-Fi is so much better because I used to drop out with 5G on the Technicolor in my bedroom.

I can’t see any indication of a fault from those stats but it could still be a NBN link problem. Suggest you install the ping plotter software from https://www.pingplotter.com/ it is free and will give an indication of were the packets are being lost.

I completely forgot I had that installed. I'll run it the next time it starts dropping out again and update the thread. Thank you for looking into this.

Is there anything in the network stats I should be looking at specifically if it was indicating an issue?

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

If the fault was in the NBN link it would show in the etho Tx and Rx errors. but not all types of faults would show here so there could still be a fault either in the NBN link or Telstras Network. If the problem was in the local LAN it would show as RX or Tx errors in eth1-4. If the problem was WiFi it would show up as errors Wl1 or Wl0

Noted. Hopefully something will come up in a few days that proves I'm not just making up bs, which is what tech support seems not be able to understand which is that it's intermittent.

Hi - a few questions - when drop outs occur, are all LEDs on the NBN Arris Modem constantly ON? Have you looked into the Arris Log Screens to see if any interruptions exist there to see if they match the times that the Arcadyan has had a hiccup? Maybe NBN are doing some work in your neighbourhood that is causing temporary interruption.

It may be that your copy of the Arcadyan System Log is not fully posted, as I don't see any LTE Module Detected or WAN:LTE lines in your report - is your 4GLTE SIM in the modem connected and working when you have the BFDv4/6 loss event as I would expect it to kick in an provide continuous connection for you.

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

Sorry this thread hasn't been as active. No detectable dropouts for me since I last posted (coincidentally...or not).

- When drop outs occur, all LEDs are on.
- I have not looked into the Arris Log Screen. Not sure how to get into the Arris tbh. Did some googling and it said default is 192.168.100.1 which doesn't work for me.

- The 4G LTE SIM in the modem is connected and does work but doesn't kick in during these times because it'd be something like 1 - 10 packets lost every 30 seconds. So it doesn't drop out long enough for the SIM to detect an outage, but something like my games or videos will disconnect or buffer.

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

Good advice.

In case of interest - No connection to the Arris - it may be that your PC or device is still locked into an IP address from your Telstra Modem. If it was temporarily assigned an IP address within the Arris range (Network Adapter Properties) , I think it would be possible to connect to the Arris LAN port after you turn off the Telstra Modem first and then remove its WAN cable from the Arris - otherwise you will auto connect to the 4GLTE SIM WAN. The Arris has an Event Log and Status Connection Page which may be helpful indicators to the health of your NBN Link. If no significant packet loss experienced in the times shown in the Telstra Modem Logs, then it points back to the Home Network. After completion, re-assign your Network Adapter back to Auto Configuration.

Re: Arcadyan LH1000 - WAN: eth0 BFDv4/6 Supervision fails once. Major packet loss.

In case I am mistaken - I can not be sure if connection is possible to the Arris Modem after activation by NBN in a working service. A few months ago, I picked up an Arris 8200B at a Recycle Market for $2 for curiosity and was able to link to it as above, but it was not connected to the NBN.
