Gateway Max - packet loss and dropouts, but WiFi signal is strong

Hi,

I'm experiencing frequent dropouts and packet loss across multiple devices even though the WiFi signal is strong on both channels 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

When I ping an address, I can see the dropout occurring and a few minutes later it is ok again.

For example:

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=561 ttl=52 time=17.791 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=562 ttl=52 time=11.228 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=563 ttl=52 time=12.728 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=564 ttl=52 time=11.794 ms

Request timeout for icmp_seq 565

Request timeout for icmp_seq 566

Request timeout for icmp_seq 567

Request timeout for icmp_seq 568

[some minutes later...]

Request timeout for icmp_seq 881

Request timeout for icmp_seq 882

Request timeout for icmp_seq 883

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=884 ttl=52 time=12.761 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=885 ttl=52 time=10.804 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=886 ttl=52 time=14.464 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=887 ttl=52 time=12.806 ms

[and finally...]

^C

--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---

1195 packets transmitted, 700 packets received, 41.4% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 9.260/13.755/27.866/2.869 ms

Thanks.

Hi

Can you turn off all devices except one and see if the problem remains?

Process of elimination....

cheers

Other devices off. Also tried rebooting the modem, etc.

But still getting the same problem:

Re: Gateway Max - packet loss and dropouts, but WiFi signal is strong

Hi,

hmm... Dunno.. don't have a access to a MAC.

But you could check for power saving options... these are notorious for shutting devices down or going into standby etc..

cheers

Sadly no resolution to this yet. It looks like it may be a broader issue with Telstra's infrastructure degrading. Still under investigation.

You maybe onto something...I know!... let's give telstra a few more billion dollars from the public purse!
