Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Since transitioning from Telstra Cable to NBN my phone system registers phantom calls, sometimes in the early hours of the morning. Two to three rings and that is it.

Log entries as follows correlate to the time registered.

Can anyone shed any light on what is happening?

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Guys

OK

I now have seen a second installation where this occurs and looking further I can see that the event occurs 3 times a day at approximately 8 hour intervals. The actual times in each of the Gen-2 devices is different (maybe due to when they were last booted perhaps?)

Does anyone have a clue what this relates to? Phantom calls in the middle of the night are annoying!

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

I don't know what is causing this but the latest firmware (18.1.c.0443-950-RB 10th December 2019) had fixes for phantom calls. What firmware do you have? Firmware is displayed on LHS of modem's login page.

Sre your handset connected to DECT base in the modem or are they plugged into phone port? If plugged into phone port how many handsets are connected?

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Yep the latest firmware as you listed is installed. I gather Telstra updates f/w in the background.

The two cases mentioned are one Uniden cordless purchased last week, and the second a Fritzbox 7490 as the downstream router plus phone functionality (connected to the green port on the Gen-2 in each case). They are not DECT devices responding to the Gen-2, but the Uniden is of course DECT to its own base. So one device connected in each case.

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

I my correct in assuming you have the Uniden base and the Fritz box DSL/TEL port connected to the Telstra Gen 2 Smart modem's green Telephone port via a double adapter?

How have you connected the handsets to the Fritzbox? Have you used its DECT base or are  the handset connected to the phone ports on the Fritzbox?

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Not quite, but functionally essentially the same.

Green port on Gen-2 goes to a Hills Home Hub telephone patch panel which in turn port 1 goes to the Uniden Base, and port 2 goes to the Tel input of the FritzBox. I have tried it with each connected individually or together with no difference. And yes two DECT handsets are paired with the FritzBox. Original intention was to connect the Uniden to the Tel output of the FritzBox.

At the second site the Uniden Base is directly connected to the green port of the Gen-2.

I have tried to get comment from Technicolor about what the log entries mean, but they state that the device is customised for the ISP (Telstra in this case) and comment needs to be sought directly from Telstra

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Hi - just to clarify, your modems Frontier Gateway - is it a DJA0230 or its predecessor, the DJN2130 and the Gen2 is the DJA0231 - both have the same firmware levels?

Do you have any security service connected to the Hills Home Hub socket and associated switch that could be receiving a heartbeat check from its base every 8 hours?

I take it your second site has no Hills Home Hub. You have obviously Factory Reset or powered down the modems, but have you reported both incidences to Telstra as a fault for follow up. Looks like it is network originated - maybe they could reset your SIP records in case data corruption exits in the Servers associated with the Telephony function.

Re: Phantom Calls - Frontier Gateway Gen-2

Hi

Both the sites have a Telstra (Technicolor) DJA0231 router as opposed to the Arcaydian version. The first has of course the Arris cable modem for HFC the second (I think) is FTTN as it is an aged care complex. Both have up to date F/W. The security system is not configured for back to base, and in any event the cable is unplugged.

It would seem to be network related, and yes several resets have occurred after Telstra corrected some configuration mismatches, so that just about exhausts the options

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
